I don't think mine is an asymetrical neck...I think it's just the 60's slim taper neck...

My 08 Les Paul Standard Plus has the asymmetrical neck. I think that was the first year. I also have an LP Classic with a 60's neck. I prefer the 60's neck.

Wkipedia says 2008 was the first year for asymmetrical neck.

I do have a line on a used 1999 Standard. Still stewing about a purchase.

Hi Ken & Mark,

Well shoot, and shit. I got busy again today - first time I could check back.

I may start a thread on this, but a question for the big rollers out there. If I called Music123, or other, and said "OK - I'm ready to buy a Gibson Les Paul Standard, but to work with my budget, I need you to knock off 20%" - do you think I could get that deep a discount?

Woody, you could look into the "X amount of payments" plans that Zzzounds, Sweetwater, and Sameday Music have. That's how I got my Schecter 7-string, and my old Tech 21 Trademark 30 amp.

I'm a weak woman

Well, join der klub Monica. I bought back my old Schecter 7-string yesterday, and listened to my mom nag me about spending the money on it, when her and my dad visited me today. I ended up hiding my Gretsch, so mom wouldn't double nag me about guitars. She's already seen my Jag, so that wasn't a problem. When I was in in college in the 80s, I used to lie to my parents about how much it cost me to buy my gear, to avoid the nagging! Every time I buy a piece of musical gear, I've always had to put up with lectures about how I'm pushing myself one step closer to financial disaster.

BTW, nice looking hollowbody. What'd you get?

Hey all...just got back from my annual trip to GC...almost bought a used Little Giant. Hated most of what else I tried..was really trying to find a semi-hollow guitar to take home but everything I tried under $700 really didn't do it for me...

I've got a Washburn 7-string that I bought on a deal. It didn't make me want to become a "7 stringer", but it is fun to play and inspires "teh brootalz".

7-strings are fun for more than just djenty brootalz. I got mine, because I was sick of losing the high range I always lost with my baritone guitars. You can do HUGE chord voicings with them, and if it has a 2 octave neck, can do runs that go from subsonic lows to piercing highs. I LOVE'em!! :thu:

Morning all. I'm suddenly having buyer's remorse over the Stagg. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it. I have been looking at the Raven West line though. Specifically, this one.

Honestly, the last thing I need is another electric guitar. But that never stopped me.

Hmmmm, that looks pretty nice! Moi - I may be done with guitars for a little while. About all I may do, is some pickup swaps (hotter bridge pickups in the Gretsch, and the Jaguar, and a better sounding bridge pickup like a Bareknuckle Painkiller in the Schecter)

It's a Stagg A350-N that I got on clearance from JR for $175. Not a well known brand. But all of the reviews I found on it were very good. I expect that the pickups are cheap ceramics. If I keep it, I'll replace them with some low powered alnico PAFs. Maybe I can find someone selling a used set with gold covers. Maybe something Gretsch like. But I'm not spending $200 on a set of pickups for a $175 guitar.

90% of the time, GC's like that for me Mark - one big hefty dose of "MEH!!"

If you do want to go Gretschy, but don't want to spend a chunk-o-change on pickups girl, look into the GFS Retrotron series.

They're actually a pretty popular low cost pickup upgrade, that many Gretsch heads make, if they don't have the coin for TV Jones. Me, I'm more than likely going to put a TV Jones Powertron Plus in the bridge of my Gretsch G5191 Tim Armstrong model. It's a great playing guitar, and the neck pickup sounds good, but the bridge pickup is downright underwhelming for me soundwise.

It's late, and I NEED to play. I lost time today, due to spending time with my parents, and feeling burned out enough, to end up falling asleep on the couch for almost 3 hours. The only problem? - it's going on 11 PM! :(

Usually it's 100% of the time for me. Guitar-wise I like a used 1961 SG reissue (one of my students has one so I knew it would be decent) that they wants $1300 for and a Brian Setzer model that they wants $3200 for. I didn't like the Setzer guitar even $1200 worth. The SG I knew I needed to put down although I did use it to demo the Blackheart.

I've been playing almost compulsively the last few days as I've been working on the new book. My hands reached burnout today so I'm going to try and take a day off tomorrow....
