That recent missing persons incident in the news

oh man people are different in real life than on social media.... BREAKING NEWS!!!!

yeah those of us older than the internet know this but not sure it's clear to those who grew up with the internet, especially those who were in their teens when SM really took off

I think it turned into a news story vs a news report because that video suddenly turned it from a missing person to a potential murder...there were also the not so very good looking two women campers that got murdered in the area at the same time so there was shit going on.

I'm pretty sure news always has a 24/7 story going somewhere which is nothing new or shocking in the internet age.

It's a new angle, to be sure. But most of this feels like the same old story of Americans claiming collective ownership of the virtue of young white women.

Some of the farm YouTubers I watch are van-life-adjacent, and none of them are acknowledging this story, but it's got to be sending a chill through the community.

Yesterday they were looking for the dude in some wet, wooded area and saying it would be highly unlikely to find him/someone out there even with the bloodhounds. Which jus reminded me of...

LOL! I loved that show as a kid.

The reality is they were aspiring vanlyfers because they had only started and had like less than 1000 followers.

Obviously number 1 women are going to be more newsworthy of missing because history shows all the women abducted and or killed be it by rapists, Sieral likillers, etc… children get amber alerts these days and then males are further down the line….most probably assume drug related, etc.

I don’t doubt for a second that if that Chris McCandles story happened now it would get the same coverage….back then you just got a book after the fact and then Eddie Vedder writing a soundtrack….

It was my favorite.

I can still hear the song in my brain haha.

News outlets definitely pump the shit out of missing young white women stories.
My wife and daughter were listening to some supposed news report about it yesterday, in which the person speaking was freaking out that the guy or his family had said to talk to their lawyer(s). I would note that any lawyer that was consulted by the dude or the family would say to direct questions to the law firm and not talk to anyone about it. And it is a right, and one cannot necessarily determine what happened by pointing to people following legal advice.

I get that it looks really suspicious. I dislike that the press whips everyone into a frenzy about it before any real facts are known. And it is a sad story. And there are lots of sad stories regarding families that are not white that are not receiving the same attention. Not that I like obsessive media attention before real facts are known.

Corollary: News sources lots of times report summaries of “Probable Cause Affidavits” filed in the court to get arrest warrants, and etc. That always bugs me too. It is the initial theory by the police and the initial evidence they have to justify an arrest. A more probable than not sort of document. Often full of errors, etc. that are revealed later in the case. This all gets reported in the press, and most defendants don’t come out in the press to tell their story, as that is generally later in the process in resolving the case, if at all. But meanwhile, a community has rendered judgment in trial by press. To me, that is annoying.

I can only imagine what her family is going through. The son-in-law and family refuse to help while she's missing, then he goes missing, then her body (most likely) is found. I it was one of my daughters I'd be very tempted to track him down and dish out some vigilante justice.

I hear ya, but let's be honest -- as soon as someone rolls into town from a trip like that without their girlfriend, red flags are going to go up. Had he -- wherever they were when she "went missing" -- called the authorities and said "My girl is missing, please help!", it wouldn't look nearly as bad. But no, he decided to take a multi-day trip home without her in her van and hope - what? No one would notice??? Gimme a break.

I hear you also. And you make a good point, if he had phoned it in and then lawyered up after they started looking at him, that might’ve looked up a little better.

Moab 911 released a call from a citizen who reported the fight they had at the Moonflower health food store shortly before trhey got pulled over. The guy who made the call said 'the man was slapping the girl"

I'm wondering when they will identify the body. I'm sure they have but when will they release it? I assume if it isn't her then we'd already know.

They have confirmed that the body they found in Grand Teton is Gabby Petito. We have a murder case.
I figured it would be since they had the press co nference on Sunday and I doubt they wouldve said anything like they did if they weren't sure. I saw the local coroner also stated that it was ruled a homicide and they are doing a bit more detailed autopsy to determine cause.

I'm still thinking he comitted suicied BUT not totally sure now because nobody really say him in Florida, no neighbors have seen him or anything. Since it's likely he killed her on the 26th or 27th and supposedly the van returned on the 1st...I mean it's kinda fishy that it wasn't until the 17th that his parents reported him missing and then saying he went for the hike on the 14th...
Since his parents have been so secretive it's totally possible they could have taken his Mustang or their car and met him somewhere halfway like say kansas or wherever earlier than the 1st and driven the van back wearing gloves...it's kinda far fetched but the family seems very shady. if that did happen it means he coulda had much more time to run (and in any direction), say from the 28th or 29th.
They said the bloodhounds turned up nothing and Bloodhounds especially are gonna find a scent if there's one...hell Brownie the work dog can literally sniff out rotten food like 60 yeards away , he'll pull in that direction and before i can even spot anything it's in his mouth...he just zeros in on it and he's not a trained sniffer, just a shop dog :embarrassed:

I guess they started searching the swamplands again ...not sure if this is the reason but some hunter's deer cam caught an image of a guy with daypack who somewhat resembles Brian but it's dark and somewhat blurry like a bigfoot pic. Supposedly this was 500 miles north of the spot the Mustang was parked and 6:17 am

also to me the daypack looks not the same but they say it is

The man was caught on the wilderness trail footage by local Sam Bass near Shady Grove Church Road in the southwest of the tiny town.

Though the video is not high quality, the man appears to have a bald head at the front, with hair coverage at the back and is of a similar lanky build to Mr Laundrie.

The imagery is infra red which accounts for the dark backpack appearing to be a lighter colour. Nonetheless the bag features the same ”night lights” pattern and ribbing.
