I am not super happy with the change but I really like the camaraderie that we have at GJ. I am going to tough it out. But they really need to change a few things.

it's really sad to see a community disappear.

+1. I was really saddened, actually.

But, pretty much all the people I liked on HC are here (except a couple) so it's all good :thu:

The people who can't log in because of expired email acc'ts have only themselves to blame.

The forum layout and interface is inexcusable. Just try to paste a link over there - I mean, it don't get no more basic than that.

It would have been technically easy to avoid the problem with the accounts. First off, they could simply have told people in advance to update their profile so it has a current email address. Then they could have used the old site to authenticate users who still had problems and once authenticated force them to enter valid details in the new site. That would have been a simple bit of scripting on the server and would have been completely secure.

As for the layout, it's mindboggling that they have already made several good fixes. If it was so easy why on Earth didn't they make the changes before launch? Anderton is making comments about how the anger of community is making it clear that the people behind the scenes need to prioritise fixing it. How about the fact they're getting fucking paid to so as a reason to 'prioritise'

Yeah, they did actually give a heads up that the switch was going to happen, so those people could easily gone into their control panel to change their emails.
As far as I can tell, most of these are forumites who've been logged in every day lately, so there isn't really an excuse for it. :embarrassed:

I have to admit I feel a bit sorry for Anderton really. He gets to take all the shit for the errors done by those responsible for the bad programming/decision making...

Fair enough. It still a pretty easy job to authenticate via the old site long enough to let people in to update their setting on the new site.

That's true. And I guess they're going to do whatever they can to make things right in regards to user accounts, post count and such.
Might take a while for some, but it should be doable.

MW Forums is a place for freedom. the american way.

i can live my jazz life without trollish persecution!

I wouldn't say I'm through with HC, but I am here right now instead of there... That kind of speaks for itself... I checked into HC a bit ago, and it is still a Mongolian Cluster Fuzz (can I say 'fuck' on this forum? I saw some have)...

Disclaimer: I am not implying that there is anything wrong with a Mongolian Cluster 'Fuzz', if that is what works for your tribe...

We can't troll?!

totally. i have alot of respect for Anderton. he really gets involved with the boards. (did alot of recent posting at the Political Party) - its unfortunate hes gotta deal with all this shit.

id be curious to see (and im sure the numbers exist) some stats on how much the traffic flow has dropped over there.

one thing i noticed that kinda sucks, is that, at least on my browser, when i highlight a thread link, i used to get to preview the OP before clicking the link.. so i could easily decide if i wanted to skip a thread if it was just a youtube link or somethin.. now its a gamble!

It's totally dead over there. About 10 posts in the last 8 hours.

Yep. I think I'm done over there for a wile. Not much fun talking to myself, and I can do that without having to deal with that shit interface.

I'll still go, unless it completely dries up. They'll fix most of the issues, folks will take a deep breath, and the world will continue spinning.

The amazing thing is that EG, OJ and Mapz are little better. I mean, Mapz and OJ have abandoned ship. How bad is that?

Just checked there, and did my first post. :embarrassed:

Good to see they've fixed the font colour/size at least. My eyes didn't hurt as bad as yesterday.
They've started going a tiny bit in the right direction. :embarrassed:

I just looked over there again, between Mapz, Guitar jam, and Electric guitars there are two posts made within the last hour. Two posts, and one of them is a where is everyone going now that this place sucks thread. These are the three biggest forums on HC. Unreal.

OJ is all about turnaround and speedy transparent browsing, it's also got a smallish hub of ultra-regular posters. Couple the interface changes making it a real chore to actually sit around browsing the forums, and the inevitable migration of a lot of the core posters to TheOpenJam, it'll be interesting to see if that community recovers. My guess is it may not :(

Holy shit. That's just bizarre. :embarrassed:
Granted, a lot of folks will return within the next few days (and posting is usually way down during weekends) out of old habit, but that's ugly.

On Open Jam, if I was browsing late, then had a look in the morning, there would be about 3 pages of unread posts. I had a look this morning and there were 12 threads.

12.
