Signature Guitars

Actually, I have the 2015 Les Paul Special Double Cut with a large goofy-looking Les Paul signature on the headstock. Does that count?

Martin has had some dubious signature models; the topper for me was the Pete Seeger 12-string. Yep, it looked just like Pete's guitar. The only problem was that his was a custom build from an independent luthier, not a Martin.

I dont necessarily discout a guitar just because it has someones name on it.

For example:
Trini Lopez, Johnny A, Tal Farlow. Even if they are Gibsons.
The Gretsch Eddie Cochran & Rev Horton Heat 6120s, Gretsch Custom Shop Tom Peterson White Falcon bass.
Robert Cray Strat, Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster.

All guitars I'd own in a heartbeat.

I've never owned a sig model, but I wouldn't discount them if they had the features I was looking for. When I was shopping Jazzmasters, I seriously considered both the Troy Van Leeuwen and J. Mascis Sig models.

I don't have any signature guitars. I would buy one if it had the features and qualities I wanted. I doubt I would be swayed by the signature much. Only one I can really think of I might want right now would be the Jeff Tweedy Martin, as I kinda want a smaller body guitar that projects well. It has the smaller body, with a deeper body so it projects bass a little better. I also like that it uses sustainable woods.

Yeah, I still love the Tweedy and if I needed another acoustic, it would be high on the list.

But for that money, I'd rather have a Waterloo. Different sound, but they can really nail a bunch of those old acoustic tones.

I like that deep body feature of the Martin, and the Waterloo looks nice, but for me, I would probably be looking for something a lot cheaper I could have out around the campfire. So, not likely I would end up getting a signature model. But that is the model of signature guitar I can think of that I like.

Yeah, the deep body is great and helps to really thicken the sound when finger picking, but can get a bit too much booty below with heavy strumming, due to how Mahogany compresses.

I would realistically end up with something like the Yamaha FS800 used for around a benjamin, or maybe even an Olympia by Tacoma, for the same money, just because.

All the signature guitars I have were bought for the features they had compared to other models. I have a Derek Trucks SG, a Les Paul standard, a PRS Bernie Marsden, and an Ibanez Jem.

It seems like the JEM is almost becoming like the Les Paul. People seem to forget it’s a sig model.
