It was actually pretty cool when they had the place kitted out like the US. Didn't realise it at the time but I was between jobs so could have signed up to be an extra
I read that article this morning and being from here, it didn't totally surprise me and I think PMC isn't too far off the mark.
Uni lecturers far and wide can debate all day long about this or that and inevitably these things change over time (we're not exactly dropping like flies due to polio infested tenements like the good old days...) but what it really boils down to is we drink too much, we smoke too much, we would literally eat shite if it could be battered, we do too many drugs and some parts of the city are very violent.
I just mentioned the other day that a girl was murdered at the bottom of my mum and dads street, a couple of years ago someone else was thrown off the top floor of a set of maisonettes and died round the back of there's, I got caught up in an investigation of a guy who was shot and killed from the next scheme over a good few years ago and although it's not the greatest of areas, it's nowhere near the worst so you can imagine what places like Easterhouse, Parkhead and Bridgeton are like....
I doubt it beam down south but BBC Scotland have just finished a 3 parter on the redevelopment of Dalmarnock for the Commonwealth Games and although it's a 5 minute drive away from here and I'm fairly used to the grimness Glasgow has to offer, the state some of these people live in and put there bodies through is unbelievable - it really doesn't take a huge amount of IQ points to work out why wee Johnny whose da is in the jail, maw smokes 400 a day, brother get stabbed to death, sister is a junky, never bothers to go to school and won't do a shift in his life probably won't be getting a letter from the Queen.
