Return to the Planet of the "Hey Euro's its that time again" Thread.

Yay, last of the webdesign shenanigans fixed (for now) last one went live today, got some small bits and pieces like proper documentation and how to's for the client to fix but then I can actually focus on fun stuff like my thesis. Aaaand I kinda have to fix my own website for a bit, it's starting to look a bit dated and the back-end is full of shoddy fixes that are starting to give issues as time goes on....

I'm going to have a beer or two.

Spent the weekend in Vienna doing some sightseeing and having a cruise on the Danube.

Drove to Slovakia on the Monday and spent that evening and yesterday chilling out and checking out the local facilities.

Went for a meal yesterday evening with our friends who are getting married on Saturday. We all ended up going back to the flat of the sister and brother in law and drinking various strange shots and COOL REFRESHING LAGER BEERS until midnight at which point we got a taxi back to the cottage we're renting. Apparently the groom, best man and brother in law ended up heading out to a night club to carry on drinking so suspect they may be the worse for wear this morning.

Last day of the summer holidays :(

It's feckin flew in and I also get to enjoy that new job in the morning anxiety!

Is the new job any good?

Kids aren't back until Monday so time will tell.

I have a "hitter" on my books which will be the first time in years - the last mob would call you all the names under the sun and throw stuff but never actively get physical (they weren't that daft :) )

timetable is a lot lighter than the last job, less planning, probaby less stress and a tonne of guidance based stuff which will be really good for down the line if I ever want to get promoted or move sideways into pastoral care.

One of my support assistants went: "so we've got you last period on a Friday, we keep that REALLY chilled so everyone can slide into the weekend so if you don't mind, can we just keep it games and tunes and stuff?"

My response: "You've clearly not heard of Mr JBJs Friday Bowie hour"

Oh yeah and I got a call from the last school earlier.

"Ummmm some guy has phoned from the X,Y,Z award you got the kids. He needs the proposal form to be e-mailed to him so he can draw up the certificates."

"I sent him the proposal form three times and the certificate request form twice, the last time was just before we broke for the Summer..."

"Yeah he can't find it and needs it to do the certificates."

"Well the only copy of the file is on my log in over there, I can't remember my logon details and the shifts over here won't give me time to go over and log on to resend it again anyway so tell him to look harder."

I feel kind of bad for the kids but that place ceased to be my problem when they decided to replace me by someone that out buzzworded me at interview.

Sounds good I guess :) Hope the hitter isn't too bad.

I just finished painting two rooms for my dad. I forgot how much I despise home maintenance and manual labour :embarrassed:

I thought about you, JBJ, when I read last week that singer Manda Ophuis of the band Nemesea (one of the girl-fronted metal bands I listen to) had quit the music business to concentrate on her full-time job of working with special needs kids.

Keep up the good work. I know I wouldn't have the patience for that kind of work.

Yeah having to give up my music career was a drag

I kind of fell into the special needs thing. I'm qualified to teacher History and, to certain levels, Modern Studies, RE and Geography so I did stints of that and general cover (baby sitting anything they stick you in) my brother is a support assistant in a special needs school and they were desperate for staff a few years back. I did a bit of work on and off, got more longer term in place and then ended up in the autism base at the last job.

Kind of sucks that this job essentially closes the door on ever going back to History but it's a great job and much more interesting to talk about at parties than how I spent the week teaching kids to write essays on German economic policy in the 1920s
