Pets of Wein

Thanks for asking! Monty is getting better every day. He does get tired earlier still, but he's active and enjoying the same things as before. He's off the pills and whatnot, but still on his low-fat diet. He has kind of obtained a sort of L.A. Woman-era Jim Morrison look as it is very difficult to groom him without the treats he's used to.

And loads and loads of mojo your way. I don't like the word 'chronic' at all. I really hope she'll be 100% again. I guess there's no way to prevent shit like this from happening, I mean it's their nature to 'investigate' stuff, read the Daily Dog, and get exposed to all sorts of dubious things.

Glad he's doing better!

The chronic part is not too scary, she's probably had it since birth. It's a bit like a dog version of Crohn's disease. There was always quite a lot of foods we needed to avoid or she'd get instant diarrhea, but that was just chalked down to allergies, while probably something else was also going on. The best case scenario now would be that we can taper off the meds after a month or two, and then make sure her intestines and stomach stay in good shape with a low-fat, high protein diet. Alternatively she might have to stay on meds long term, which also wouldn't be the end of the world. The most important part is to get her intestines in shape and robust again so they don't get pushed over the edge easily.

Thanks! Yeah, I suppose that doesn't sound too bad, but a couple of months on meds is something still. How's her energy level? Is she up and about and active?

Monty's doing pretty well, all things considered, but still pretty low on battery. Usually he will only really get tired from brain work and training exercises, but right now 30 minutes in the woods is plenty for him. And he's got that slightly arrogant and lazy tramp look that is a bit funny. He really likes pillows, the more the better.

Energy level is totally fine, she's completely herself. At no point during all of this has she been lethargic or anything, just a bit lazy at the worst of it, but nothing crazy. The only downside now is that she drinks and pees more because of the medication, so we have to walk her a bit more often, but on workdays that's not really an issue as she always tags along and gets to go out like 5 times a day anyway.

This guy was on the euthanasia list before Christmas, and we couldn't let him go that way. The shelter allows you to meet them one-on-one in a private room. I sat down, and he immediately sat in my lap. He's about 4 years old, 30 pounds, and much taller than he looks in the photos. His shelter name was "Sparky", but he never reacted to it, so we named him "Rufus." It fits his goofy yet kind character.

He is pretty chill, very affectionate, super athletic when playing in the yard, and learning all the people and dog rules quickly.

He has a curly mohawk.

Rufus is adjusting really well after 6 weeks. The other dogs have accepted him and are playing with him more often.

Initially, he had no basic discipline, including zero comprehension of "no". He still has a few bad habits I'm working on, but he's a quick learner and wants to please. The backyard is his happy place.
