This was done awhile back, but can you imagine if a candidate said "I'm a muslim, liberal, and democrat...in that order"? People would riot.

And yes, @Flamencology, it can always get worse. I just don't want to think about how much worse right now.

It's even more unsettling when you understand that to those people, being Christian, conservative, and republican IS being American.
 
I think that the concept of patriotism is mostly unhealthy.

I mean, it can be cute and benign when the little guy wins an Olympic medal for his tiny homeland.

But for a superpower, it's used as a licence to be unchecked and free of self-doubt.

American exceptionalism is also a terrifying concept.

When I first realized that, I realized I would never be able to vote for a Republican on any level. They are so worried about Islamic states, but they are trying to do the exact same thing just with a different religion.

Whenever my christian friends get pissed at someone wanting to remove the word god from something, I ask them to swap the word god with allah and see if they are still ok with it.

I like to point out to them that the Allah you see all those people shouting about on the CNN is the very same God they are talking about needing to be broadcast over the school intercom in the morning for inspiration. That really pisses them off.
