But 2000 wouldn't have happened with a popular vote, when my vote for Nader didn't matter.I know. Which is why I asked you if you'd vote differently if it were a popular vote election.

Nope.

Morally guilty of not voting for two vaccuous candidates 16 years ago?Technically innocent, morally guilty.
I agree with you. If your state is already decided, vote third party. A third party really needs to get the federal funding. I wish the libertarian or Green Party would drop out so there was only one big third party so the third party votes wouldn't get split.
I voted Nader in 2000 because Bush had VA by a mile.

Why would Green and Liberterian join? They have virtually nothing in common apart from being third parties.
I didn't say join. It would be nice to get all of the votes to one third party. If one would just drop out for this election, I bet the one left could get the votes with all of the hate directed at the 2 nominees.
No, for not voting for one of them.
Ok, but if I'm inclined to vote Green, and then the Green Party disappeared, then why the hell would I suddenly vote for Libertarian over Dem?
Flipside, if I were ill-informed and wanted to vote Libertarian, and the Libertarian Party disappeared, then why the hell would I suddenly vote for the Green Party over the GOP?
When I voted for Nader, I knew he had no shot. I can't imagine anyone voting for a third party thinks their candidate has a snowballs chance in hell to win, they do it to protest the 2 party system. If there is only one third party they would get the vote. There probably are those who genuinely vote for those parties but if you are strongly behind a third party candidate, I don't see you voting for one of the majors if your candidate goes away.
I see control of the Supreme Court as the most important issue in this election.
I think that you're wrong on this one.
I support a lot of the Green Party's platform. If it were an instant-runoff election, I'd easily support them over the GOP and the Libertarians. Depending on the candidate, and the candidate's ability to actually to get stuff legislated, they might even be my first choice.
But I'd love to see the Libertarian Party eviscerated. The Ron Pauls of the world are teenage intellects, just bright enough to present themselves as intellects to non-intellects. I find them dangerous.
I want to vote Green in the election. If Hillary is in a strong position in Illinois, I probably will. I won't give Libertarians the time of day.
I see control of the Supreme Court as the most important issue in this election. Giving Trump control would be a very, very bad idea.
Flamencology, you can tell me I'm wrong all you want, but I have voted 3rd party in every presidential election since I first voted...it's my way of voting for none of the above...voting for the lesser of 2 evils is, in my opinion, giving tacit approval to the process as it exists and is incredibly objectionable to me...
But it's not a instant runoff and it never will be.
There is something else you are over looking. If the green party candidate dropped out, the Dems who don't like Hillary could vote for the libertarian candidate to get them federal funding in the next election. If the libertarian party got the federal funding, think of who would lose, the GOP. The libertarian party wouldn't take votes from the Dems, they would end up taking the Tea Party folks.
I do love the idea of a heavily fractured right. That has been the problem of the left for far too long, and I feel like we're finally starting to clue into that.
But no, there's no way in hell I'd support the Libertarians just to potentially split a vote four years down the road. I don't think that's a smart investment.
