I plan on getting the SA mil spec and a few Wilson Combat 8 round mags. Then the usual upgrades, main spring, trigger job, bushing and barrel. They can be done over time.

i've done that with every 1911 i've ever owned, and done it myself. it ain't that hard, not on a 1911.\
you also forgot the stainless full length guide rod and polymer cushion pads and higher capacity slide spring.

wait.....you wanna change out the barrel? yea, that's certainly not hard....but i've found that the barrels in the 1911's i've owned (not all colts) were pretty good.....when you keep then straight (better barrel bushing and full length guide rod). and a better barrel link usually cleans up the rest of the slop

just want to try a match grade barrel. I do think the bushing will help more.

the upgraded barrel bushing should (depending on clearance tolerances compared to the 'match barrel'....look into that) help keep the barrel centered in the slide and frame.
make sure you get a 'match' barrel link. sloppy links will undo all the upgrades that you are talking about.
and while your at it, make sure you have a feed ramp job done. slight change to the ramp angle and polish job.
AND....check you magazine springs....if the spring rate in the magazines are not as quick as the upgraded slide spring, you will have jam feeds all day long.
just sayin'

and by the way......Prages interest in a stainless slide and regular steel frame ain't the greatest idea.....stainless sliding against regular steel tends to gall and over time start chattering and if you machine the galls out....you end up loosening up the fit between slide and frame. if you game is accuracy, leave the stainless out of it. imho.

I agree - stainless 1911s are pretty, but the accuracy suffers.

Got to shoot a few rounds through the Bodyguard today.

I want one.

Trigger pull is much different than anything else we have, so that'll take some getting used to.

Couldn't find one in stock locally that wasn't the same price for non-laser that Paula paid for the laser sight one.

Still might go with a Ruger LCP just to have some variety, though.

I find the LCP less pleasant to shoot than the Bodyguard - have owned both. The BG's trigger is definitely a long, heavy double action pull, but mine's smooth. The problem I have with the Ruger is that the shape of the trigger guard is such that it beats up my trigger finger during recoil. Still, I did carry one for a while before I bought the BG - I was waiting for a BG without the laser. I had one of the earliest laser BGs, and the switch kept turning on in my pocket and burning the batteries out. I think they've fixed that now, but I still prefer the less bulk of the no laser version.

This is why I can't get into 1911s. They always seem like never ending projects.

I picked up a Makarov over the weekend. For the uninitiated, it's been called "The AK47 of Pistols." It's simple, rugged, reliable, accurate enough, and ubiquitous in current and former soviet bloc nations. Doesn't hurt that it's cheap and pretty darn good lookin.

I'm not that picky.
2 of my locals have used Remington R1s for $450. The guys at both shops seem pretty high on the. I've only handled them in the shop and the slide is verrry smooth and the trigger feels decent on them

it's a 9mm. If I want a Euro 9mm I'm getting a CZ- 75.

i had one and loved it. until the break in at my apartment. they got a lot of stuff.

also....a 1911 doesn't HAVE to be an ongoing project. you can leave them stock and they're one of the most reliable auto loaders ever made. just sayin'
