Funny thing about the guide rod change - first thing I do with a 1911 that has a full length guide rod is to change it to the short GI style. I hate full length guide rods and the effect they have on field stripping, and feel they add nothing to accuracy while potentially hurting reliability.

to each his own

Thanks for the info @mongooz - will have a look at those mods. I did put a dab of white fingernail polish on the front sight and it does help. I pretty much only use the 1911 at the range. It's full-size, heavy and single stack. Fun the shoot and really accurate.

I should have my very own S&W Bodyguard .380 with laser sight tomorrow. :embarrassed:

We need help. :embarrassed:

So how'd it do at the range?

By the way - was thinking, and am not sure if you know the internet firearms tradition. When you do receive your carry permits (if you haven't yet), it's tradition that you go to Walmart first and foremost - they call it "The Wally Walk" - so you can get used to being armed in public and realize the people around you neither know nor care.

It did well. I only had 50 rounds of ammo. I took it and the Shield 9.

Big mistake. When I went from the BG to the Shield, the trigger is so much lighter on the Shield that I had to really concentrate to not fire prematurely.

As for accuracy, I'm still not a great shot, but after the first couple of rounds, I started hitting the target. :embarrassed:

And we have our permits. Haven't done a Wally Walk.

Just curious, did you pick up the BG for shits and giggles or is the shield not compact enough for you?

The Shield is a bit bulky for concealment for both my, and Mrs. P's builds. The BG is about an inch shorter, both in the slide length, and the grip length. It's also a bit narrower.

I don't find the difference in recoil between the two to be all that much. Yeah, the BG has a bit more than the Shield, but it's not a dramatic difference.

Plus, the laser on the BG is super cool. :embarrassed:

It came down to the Ruger LCP and the Bodyguard for me. I went with the BG because it has better sights, a thumb safety, and the slide locks on the last shot. The Ruger is just a double action trigger safety, and while it has a slide lock, it doesn't lock automatically when it's empty. Plus, judging by the Youtube videos I've watched, the BG looks a little easier to field strip than the LCP.

Congrats on the BG. I love having the laser on my LCP. If I can though, I use the sights, I seem to shoot better with them. The laser would be nice for shots where you can't raise your hand up.

Oh yeah, got this last week.... really a nice little gun.

Mrs. P. was off today.

She went to the range without me.

NO FAIR!

Yeah, I've gone to the range without her a few times, but still...

Ruger just came out with this:

I have a 22/45, all black with a bull barrel. Would consider selling and getting one of these though.
