@Gary Blanchard , you may be finding the barre chords sounding better because the cowboy chords aren't intonating well. And that might be because the nut slots are a bit shallow on a newer FMIC guitar.

At some point you are hopefully going to set up the guitar and intonate it. If you are still finding some sourness to the cowboy chords, take a look at nut slot depth.
