NFL 2017-18 Thread

The Seahawks are the LAST team that should ever complain about referee calls, given their history in that regard.

I can't say that I agree with that.

What I can say is that they should have had that touchdown and to have it taken away AND to have Lane ejected for "throwing a punch" was so far lop-sided that at least one official should receive a suspension over that call.

At worst, Lane gave the guy a bit of a forearm facewash AFTER being facemasked. Major foul to Adams on the facemask. Instead, the TD is taken back and Lane is ejected. UNREAL.

Touchdown Seattle.

And I love Green Bay.

Meh -- as far as I'm concerned, the "fail Mary" karma boat has now arrived in Seattle, and the scales are now even.

Ok... well, that was a bad one but I just don't necessarily agree with sports karma revenge unless it happens in a tighter time frame. Preferably in the same game and perhaps one minute after.

That said, I get it.

One could have looked further back in that same game and saw calls go the wrong way in the Pack's favor. I don't recall them, as that game is ancient history. I cannot believe Pack fans were bringing it up (at least on my FB feed, there was even guy, who I knew in school days, who said America (GB, I guess) won and Sanctuary (Seattle) lost I guess as some way of saying the Seahawks deserved the bad call as retribution for his perception of their politics ) as some sort of justification for what @smorgdonkey described.

Oh, and there was the outright mugging and holding to the ground (standing up but still preventing jumping for the ball) of Graham later in this weekend's game. That very well could have been a TD too. It was not overthrown such that Graham could not have gone up for it. And we will never know now, as he was mugged and held to the ground. Whatever "karma" the pack was owed is way going the other way now.

The Pack and its fans are just used to the fingers on the scale in their favor, and cannot handle calls going against them. And if they do, it justifies years of "sports karma."

Or so it appears. In any case, I am super tired of Packers fans whining about a call by substitute officials years ago. They get their calls in their favor too.

One example only. I could keep posting links. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...oss-to-packers-we-couldnt-beat-the-officials/

EDIT: Here you go in an SI article complaining about the replacement refs in that game that called a bad game overall: Seattle tried to respond, aided by a roughing-the-passer penalty and egregious pass interference call (one that came just moments after a similarly questionable call went against the Seahawks to keep Green Bay's TD drive alive).

Seattle did nothing wrong here, mind you. In fact, the Seahawks turned in an inspired effort for much of the night, totally derailing Green Bay's offense in the first half en route to a 7-0 halftime lead, then getting a clutch stop late to set up the Wilson-to-Tate dramatics.

Seattle fans think they invented everything. They didn't, but they have perfected the art of being obnoxious:

Yes, he talks about the newer fans. There are a lot of things about new seattle I like less than old seattle.

Anecdotal. You will find assholes in all stadiums. Fans from the early days typically did not do that.

Quoting comments from sports pages and tweets??

Written by this guy who's description in his own publication reads:
Chandler Dutton

A man of many words but few ideas, Chandler Dutton grew up in Chandler, Arizona and has spent his life trying to escape the pain and suffering that has accompanied this cruel coincidence. He is a co-founder of National Ave.

What does any of that have to do with crappy calls in a game? Other than an ad hominem attack with a super broad brush. I am sure I can search the internet and find some dude wearing a cheese wedge on his head acting like a dick. Most likely well more than one. I am sure there are asshat fans in any stadium. And as for band wagon, yes there have been quite a few in seattle. They annoy me. As for me:

Not bandwagon. I communicated with Mr. Howard a few months ago. He went on from being a tight end who took an interest in a struggling 9th grade kid to being a school teacher, then high school administrator, for many years.

I know he was great with me at that football camp. Taught me, and gave me a little boost when I needed it. I am sure he was great for a lot of kids over the years. He is one of the main reasons I have been a loyal fan since the beginning.

So, respectfully, Screw bandwagon.

Look, I don't hate the pack and their fans. In fact I used to feel a kinship and that I liked them. I am just tired of them bringing up that one play from however many years ago like there have never been any plays blown by the refs in their favor.

I'm just messin' with you. Isn't that what Bay Area and Seattle folks do with each other?

Actually, I'm mostly indifferent about pointyball. I'm a much more devoted soccer & hockey fan!

IMHO the BA/Seattle rivalry is mostly artificial, and based on a few good games and lack of real historical hatred. This aint the Giants/Bums by any stretch of the imagination.

Now that the Lambs are back on the west coast, can't we all just hate them like we used to?

I don't know if it is artificial based on some of the comments if you read them after articles about the games. But I am just glad I don't sit near those guys posting. Sheesh. Get a life.

I can tell you I like the Rams a lot less than the Niners. Especially now that Harbaugh is gone. Nothing against his skills, just didn't like his sideline demeanor. But the Lambs are a nemesis for the Seahawks. Not only do the Seahawks seem to have a hard time with them, there are always injuries after that game. Something about how the Lambs approach the Seahawks. So yeah, Lambs are not my favorite. I would rather have good hard fought games between our teams.

Well, to be honest nobody here cared much about the Seahawks either way until they (re)joined the NFC west, and really not until 2010/2011 because of the Pete Carrol /Jim Harbaugh rivalry that they started when coaching USC/ Stanford. The fans jumped on it because nature abhors a vacuum, and it's good marketing to have a rivalry.

Can we just agree to BEAT LA?

AFAIK, The Seahawks were AFC entirely until the switch recently. They were expansion into AFC with Tampa Bay.

They were in the NFC West their first season, and the Bucs were in the AFC West their first season. They swapped conferences and the Bucs went into the NFC Central.

Ok, so forget the Rams. I'm watching the Falcons v Packers and I am full in on the Falcons. After suffering through the worst owner in the world, Dan Snyder, Arthur Blank is awesome. Mandated $2.00 for a bottle of water and $2.00 for a hot dog at the new stadium for all events. $4.00 for a souvenir soda with free refills. That is so cool.

Well, I am GLAD the Redskins beat the Rams. And yes, that is cool that Arthur Blank mandated that. Smart man IMO.

On the Seahawks, I didn't watch but the the end, when they finally started to get some consistent offense together. I hope Carson continues to develop and Rawls comes back. Getting a strong running game again will help the offense, and hopefully give some time for the offensive line to get their act together. A lot of the offense that happened apparently happened due to RW's scrambling and running ability. He is healthy, and that is good. The Seahawks need to protect him better now that he is Glad for the win, but I want to see more consistent offense, and particularly the line.

Raiders are 2-0 and opened up a 55 gallon drum of ass whooping on the Jets.

After all the losing years I had to endure, it's nice to see my team winning again.

The Eagles played the Chiefs very tough. They even had a chance to tie it up with no time left but missed on a hail mary. They showed me lots of confidence yesterday. Good things are gonna happen with this team.

Damn, the Seahawks almost made the Niners look....ok. Almost. I feel bad for both of us this year. That was pretty much a shit show from what I was able to watch.
