MWGL Photography thread II ( Continued)

The criticism that usually gets made about the D7100 is the buffer size is a little small, so you're not going to be shooting 400 kerjillion frames per second. But unless you make your living as a professional sports photographer then it won't matter much to you at all.
I do shoot wildlife so sometimes I rattle off a lot of shots. I find buffer only an issue if I shoot raw+jpeg.

Before I thought of getting the 7100 I put a bid on a 5200. If I don't win that one I'm following a 7100.
I could totally be making shit up but I seem to remember the D5200 was a significant improvement over the D5100, like to the degree that it may use the 7100's sensor or other bits. That might be worth researching.

As far as the buffer issue goes, if the D5200 served you well then you aren't likely to be disappointed by the D7100.

I'm wanting to upgrade my little d3200 so this is interesting.

The D7100 has an internal focus motor doesn't it? Which could be handy for older lenses. I have a couple that I have to manually focus because of the lack of AF motor in the d3200.

I'm eventually going to dump my Nikon SLR for a Fuji X-T30 or Sony A6300. Since you have lots of Nikon glass, you probably don't want to jump ship (but there are adapters available).

Mirrorless is the future. And I see no reason to lug around a huge heavy camera when something that fits in a jacket pocket or fanny pack (sorry Brits) can do every bit as good a job.

Since I'm retired, really retired not Blanchard retired, I have very little disposable income. This has to cost the same or less than repairing my current camera will cost. Mirrorless may be the future but as I don't have much of a future, they're not in my future

I recently retired my old Canon EOS 40D for a Lumix GX85 (MFT format). I really appreciate the smaller size and lighter weight. At any rate, our kids got us a 'boutique hotel' room in Carmel-by-the-sea last weekend for our 40th Anniversary and we took advantage of the opportunity to take some photos:

Since we have been talking glass, what should I absolutely avoid like the plague? I am finding that my new Tamron fills most of what I need for outdoors.

Apart from close ups my Tamron ( can't remember th emodel off hand but it did come in at £1,000 2nd hand so a nice piece of glass) does 99% of what I use it for. In fact I took a longer zoom to Ibiza with us too and it was pointless, I took a few close up shots of the pier then that was me back to the Tamron.

I'd say stick with Tamron. The two best non-manufacturer brands are probably Sigma and Tamron. Most of the review I see comparing the two usually rate the Tamron higher. I would stay away from low end no name stuff.
