Guys, Im pretty new to this site and I really like it here, but I have been a pretty big fan of HC for years until the recent catasrophy they just inflictede on everyone.
I would like to give y'all some unbiased simple reporting based on what I have seen there over the years, by7 the way, I am only speaking for the Electric guitar forum as that is mostly where I post.
I DO NOT hardly ever see people with busnesses or other sites directly making threads to "hey come check out my site" for whatever reason the site may be for. It happens, but rarely, and the people that do it, I may have seen them do it once, maybe twice in all the time I have been there. There ARE dudes that come in and post their stuff who are obviously trying to bring traffic to their businesses, some have music based weebsites like this one, others may be luthiers trying to sell theior guitars, but the ones that I have seen that get away with it, ALL of them are very subtle about it and at least make some kind of attrempt to disguise their spoam post as something other than spam. They may come in and say, "Hey check out this song I wrote" then you open the thread, they tell you about the song, and then they say" by the way, you can hear more at my site" or same thing with luthiers, "hey check out this new guitar I built, or listen to this song, by the way it is played on my new guitar and you can see these things here at my site"
Now I LIKE Mark, and I wouldnt consider what he brings to HC spam in any way, but based on the history of things that I have seen there, the way the stuff is presented, can easily be misunderstood as spam by alot of the posters over there. In fact, when I see Marks threads pop up over there, I always wondered if he had some special arrangement with HCEG, the mods over there where they let him continue to do this when I have seen them yank other somilar type things in the past.
My point here is, I thing what Mark brings to HC is HUGELY beneficial to the site and is the opposite of spam, but that is because I know what it is about. Aloyt of other people there dont care what the reason is, or rthe content of the stuff he is posting is, they just see it as "Hey, come over to MY site andhelp me make money". I am just the messenger,. I know how people think over there.
But I do HAVER to tell yall this in fairness, that the ones I see doing this on a regular basis over there are all pretty much very subtle about the way they go about it, and they at the very least make some kind of silly attempt to disgyuise what others may see as spam by feigning a regular post. It seems that when this happens, even though everyone still sees it for what it is, it is generally accepted by the populaus over there and people dont seem to concern themselves with it much if at all. It has always sort of been an unwritten rule for as long as I have been there.
Now, I am not say ing I agree with any of the system, and I think what M<ark brings is very valuable, Im just trying to lert yall know that I DONT see them singling Mark out, it is just that his posts over there directing people to this site, are written too directly and are consistant with the ones that get yanked. Im telling you, if you learn the system, change the wording in the thread titles a little bit, at least make an attempt to appease all the spam alarm activists over there, yo7u will never have a problem. The ones that are successful at directing traffic to their sites have all figured this out. everyone knowss why they are there, and nobody cares, and most people are happy they are there and believe what they vring to the site is valuable.
Im just the messenger. Dont shoot me. Im just telling y'all how it has worked over there for everyone else that does it successfully.
