It's that time a year again...post yer weather

Summer seems to have finally arrived. For the next week temps are upper 80s - low 90s with little to no rain. That is after two months of below average temps and above average rainfall. And that was quite nice.

It’s been a decent summer here in N AL. Of course it’s been hot and humid, but nothing much past the low 90s, and fairly frequent thunderstorms so adequate rainfall. No long periods approaching 100 deg or long stretches of drought.
But it looks like the infamous heat dome that’s plagued states E of the Mississippi may be moving east and parking over the Ohio valley, so we could be in for a dry and cooking Sept unless we get a lot of tropical action from the gulf.

It's nice here today but apparently we are going to have a hurricane Hilary on Sunday? Probably be a tropical storm when it hits here but in four decades of living in SoCal there has never been a hurricane.

Yeah a hurricane alert in SoCal is not normal.

It was 107 here yesterday. Still over 100 at 8 pm. :annoyed:
Every day in August had reached triple digits so far. This Sunday is another 107 day, so you can bake bread in the mail box.

That's what I thought, hurricanes are an east cost thing but, living in Illinois most of my life, I thought I must of just not heard about the west coast ones.

Hurricanes on the west coast typically start up off off Mexico or Baha and then turn to the northwest and dissipate in the cooler waters of the Pacific. However the strong winds propelling the Maui fires were generated by a cat 4 that passed south of Hawaii that started as a tropical depression off the West coast of Central America. Doesn’t look like this one is gonna make the western turn. Y’all in S Cal better get to high ground and watch out for mudslides! This one’s expect to dump a lot of water real fast. If I lived in an arroyo or on the side of a mountain I’d be concerned.

Wait, what?

So far just mild rain in Ventura County. We are 40 miles up the coast from Los Angeles.
I'm not sure how bad it will get, but we are going to see the Barbie movie at 2:50.

This is the most California thing I’ve ever heard! …..not the song, your post :jam:

I'm not mocking the storm. There's not much I can do. I am questioning our yards drainage though. If it comes down hard, I may have to zip home and do some quick trenching with the pick axe. I'll be discreetly checking the Ring camera during the film.

It’s only 85° right now but the sun is so goddamned bright that it feels like 90°.

We rolled the dice and went to the movies during the weather alerts. While waiting to get popcorn, I got my first Google -ShakeAlert. The epicenter was 27 miles away in Ojai.
