If you need a certain note to sustain longer push down with your fingernail instead of the flesh of your finger. If they're not calloused as hell they do sort of a natural palm mute without frets.
 
That’s correct. I put on my fingernails above the 12th fret on the e- and b-strings. When there’s a need for a loooong tone, otherwize not.
