Guitars in 2016 - What are your desires?

I'm looking to buy a guitar from 1960 as a tribute to my brother (that's the year he was born). I've been looking at some of the more reasonably-priced options from that era (strats, teles, or any Gibson = stupid $$$$) so right now I'm trying to decide between a Gretsch Clipper or a Fender Musicmaster.

Okay, change mine, I was at Thomann today in the hopes of trying out a Source Audio Classic Distortion.

Ended up playing a Yamaha RGX A2 for the first time ever. Holly balls, what a guitar. Even with the space aged modern look, it was awesome.

I may be able to get one used for 169€....

Damnit.....

I was going to get an instrument from my birth year, but I don't know how the play the lyre. :old:

Kinda have a hankering for a Casino. Don't need it one bit. Should probably just play the pile of things I have.

So I almost made it through 2015 without buying one guitar. September came around and my wife helped me to get my '64 Gretsch Clipper. Not a week later it was the Gibson SG and this past December the Gibson GT LP. Let's how long I can go in 2016 to not purchase another guitar.

Fortunate for me my list is short...

1) Rickenbacker 620/12 Fireglo
2) Rickenbacker 350 Jetglo
3) Harmony Stratotone

Best part is that I only want them used.

Good list. I wouldn't mind a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster (my son just got a '59). Maybe even a Gretsch of some sort. Maybe a late 60's Tele.

I got close on a Jaguar but passed. It was an MIJ Reissue.

Cool on your son's '59!

I'm just after a short scale bass. Sold my p bass as I get bad hand pains from the stretching. I have small hands - even a fender guitar scale feels long and laborious compared to gibson. Might get a jaguar bass when I get the money from my friend for the bass.

Other than that I still want to find the perfect pickup for my SG and get a loaded guard for my old strat copy.

Check out the '70s Fender Musicmaster basses as a short scale option. They're comfortable to play for long stretches (not too heavy or bulky) and the stock pickup has a nice clear, poppy tone.

Also, if yr looking for a lower cost option, see if you can scare up one of the MIK Epiphone SG basses. Solid instrument with a little more sonic oomph if you want thud/grind. They're a bit neck heavy, however.

There is also a Squier Classic vibe Mustang bass. That is what I have. Light and easy on the fingers.

I should have some news regarding this come Friday if fedex is to be believed.

I was working on some Gretsch Duo-Jet G.A.S. when Epiphone decided to announce these Limited Edition EJ-160e's. Don't need another acoustic. Do need a blonde EJ-160e. OTOH the Epi's are cheap and I could still have Dou-Jet gas even if I bought the Epi.

Of course there's always the chance I'll go bat shit crazy and order two of them, one sunburst and one natural.

* Some sorta boutique-y Bassman clone. Head only preferred. Not interested in dropping thousands on it; someone has to be making $1k handwired simple heads these days.

* Some sort of pedal that involves excruciating oscillation / distortion / pain. Death By Audio?

* A Casino Coupe. Like Fumbles, I have zero need, but ... geez. When it played me in the store, the notes came out great.

* More Squier Indonesian basses. There are 4-5 at my local mom n pop that are just terrific basses. FWIW, I too have smaller hands and have a bass that has P-bass spacing. It hurts; there's even a nerve on my pinky that's in exactly the wrong spot. Those Indo Squiers are solid instruments (you'll want to mod electronics and bridge and nut, but that can be fun), as well as more interesting and attractive than a lot of pricier options. I'd check out their short-scale options ... in person. Cuz the Squiers at Guitar Center are a trainwreck.

I don't need any new guitar.

If I win the lotto, I'll get a Kiesel Vader, + a Caparison Horus :embarrassed:
