Guitars in 2016 - What are your desires?

I don't really need anything. If I had any money I'd be looking for a better sounding jazz guitar but thats not happening this year.

The Joe Pass not quite cutting it? Do you think the compact size is a factor? The Broadway has L-5 like dimensions, while the Pass is decidedly small-bodied for a jazz box...probably closer in overall size to the Ibby GB-10. My jazz teacher in college had these two as his main guitars:

I've only seen one picture of him holding a traditional jazz box and the most recent images I've seen have him playing old Harmonies and Danos. As you know, it's whatever works, but as I've been finding with my new La Patrie Concert CW, certain instruments put you in a certain musical frame of mind.

I'm planning to sell my Edwards Les Paul and my MiM Strat and use the money to build a Warmoth exactly the way I want it...

Well, in school (at least in the Jazz Nazi Cal State system) you should have a traditional arch top since that is the mind set. Some of my issue is actually about amplification since everything i own is geared towards my electric sound and not quite clear enough or dark enough for the sound I want. And while it is a nice guitar for the money it is still a $500 guitar.

A $500 in 2015 no less. My ASAT Special was $600 new. My Am Std Strat $550 new and my MIJ '69 Thinline Tele was $500 new. Still own them all and they are all still excellent guitars, but today that same money will get some decent imports, but so far none that I've tried come close. For what it's worth, these were all purchased more than 20 years ago.

Would you be looking for an amp more than a guitar then or a guitar that can work with your current amps?

Well, I need the amp first. I get the feeling that would get me closer than trying to play a nicer guitar through the amps I already own. I actually get a better jazz sound with my McFeely through the Deluxe Reverb than the Joe Pass does.

I'm not surprised to hear that. I think Frisell, Greene, and many others get "better" sounds for what I like hearing using solidbody guitars through traditional Fender-style tube amps compared to the classic hollowbody jazz sound. I've never really been a fan of that traditional tone despite loving a bunch of the players that stuck/stick to it. Julian Lage is a a great current example, as I love the sound he's getting playing a Tele (even with teh amp breaking up a bit) far more than his archtop tone. Great playing either way, despite being stylistically different, but the Tele hits my ear better.

2015 was just a good year for getting the sounds that I have wanted for quite a while. I think I'll be either standing pat in 2016, or deciding to let go a few things.

But then there is 'dat Waterloo.

Nothing immediate. I really have more than enough. There's that long term GAS list though that is always looming. :)

Jazzmaster (custom build, probably)
G&L SC-2
Guild M75
Hamer Talledega
Hamer Prototype
Zemaitis Metal Front (in my dreams)
Gibson LP Custom silverburst
Rickenbacker 360 turquoise
A really nice dreadnaught acoustic
A really nice 000 acoustic

1. I still don't have a big fat jazz box.
2. I'd like something with lipstick pickups.
3. While I don't need another dual P90 guitar, the GoldTop LPs I've been seeing lately are GAS inducing.

I'd also like to thin the herd a bit on the acoustic side of things, but I can't figure out what needs to go...

Plenty of desire but none will likely become reality. Every time I get the itch to pick something new up, I go home and play what I have & realize that I'm pretty set.

I'd like to get a Marshall JVM410 head and 2x12 cab. I'd also love a Dr. Z. EZG50 combo. I don't really need either one, so I doubt I will buy. I have more than enough guitars.
