Gibson buys Mesa Boogie

The new owners seem to be doing a great job with Gibson and Epiphone. I think they can probably manage Mesa Boogie well if they just focus on making great amps and don’t get sidetracked.

That’s OK. I’ve never played a Mesa that I thought felt right.

The only Mesa I liked was the Mark I and they stopped making the reissue of those.

I didn't gel with a lot of their offerings, especially the metalhead amps of course, but there's no question that the quality and (appropirate) innovation were there. I loved the Electrodyne, just wish it wasn't 8000 watts, and their TA series did some cool things.

I agree. You can always tell the forumites who haven't played a Mark 2 c+.

You don't have to like Mesa tone but I for one really respect young hippie Randall taking on the industry giants and kickin their ass. Its a great story.

There will now be Cab Clones pre-installed into everything, with robot knobs preventing you from ever sounding halfway decent.

Interesting to see over the next year or so what godawful crossover products they can come up with. There is going to be some sort of weird shit noone asked for. Guaranteed.

How quick do you think they'll have lawsuits coming against Line 6, Kemper, and Fractal?

Before I went Kemper, I used a Mesa pretty much every day. I still have it and it is as good as it was when I bought it in the late 90's. I hope Gibson doesn't manage it like they have past acquisitions (Kramer, Steinberger, and so on), but I fully expect to see the 5 watt solid state Mesa/Boogie practice amp Baldwin guitar gift back at Sam's Club next Christmas.

I had heard many people talking about late model Mesas having lots of problems - even a former member of this forum had returned 2 I believe before going to another brand.

Secondary point: I have owned about 20 Gibsons. None of them had quality issues except one (a tiny finish flaw). I never went to see a Gibson in person that I did not buy. They were all excellent. Knowing what I know now, I wish that I would have kept half of them (at least).

Maybe I just got a good one but I love mine.
