Euro 2020 (in 2021)

So next one is going to be conflicting. As a surrogate Finn, it would be quite tasty to see Sweden fail. Then again, it would also be quite tasty to see Spain and their "we own football" complex fail :embarrassed:

I'm having fun with this, since I don't have a dog in this fight. Only wish that the games weren't so damn early here on the left coast.

What I find hilarious is that the English media/pundits just don't ever bloody learn. Unbelievable hype again after getting a ridiculously easy draw in the last World Cup and winning the opening game this weekend. They've probably never had as many talented attacking players as they do now, but that doesn't really help much when their manager has no idea what their best team is.
Once they're up against one of the best teams again, they're out. Rinse and repeat. Lovely. The less said about the English FA the better.

Not too fussed about who wins tonight's game really btw. Neither of them look like going very far in this tournament.

I watched the match Sweden-Spain 0-0.

90 minutes of my life I will never get back. :(

Someone should tell the Spanish that the purpose if the game is to win by scoring goals. Not who can complete the most passes.

They were lucky that the Swedes refused to score

Yup, it was an absolute snoozefest. Probably Spain will be crying a lot about how well they played and how lame the Swedes were, but dayummm they were just passing around with no purpose. And Sweden played piss poor as well.

Man man man, Portugal has some ugly ass away shirts. Wtf were the designers thinking

Also, nice of Hungary to give Mike from Better Call Saul a coaching job :embarrassed:

This game looks like it's going to be decided by who sets up an attack without being incredibly sloppy and lazy first :embarrassed:

Portugal is a weird team. They should be a lot better than they are, plenty of good attackers who can play more direct football than the Spaniards.
But for some reason it doesn't quite click. And Ronaldo having to be the center of everything is starting to become a bit of a problem for them.

Hungary been better than expected as well. I knew Gulacsi was a really good goalkeeper (still think it was a massive mistake selling him to Red Bull years ago), but didn't know much else about them.

A few crazy minutes there. Deflection, pen and 2-0.
I went to the supermarket somewhere around the 70 minute mark, managed to miss the goals :embarrassed: but it really looked like the kind of game where the first ten to string 5 or 6 good passes together would run away with it. I have to say, this was the first game with so much consistently poor passing. Either too slow, short, a meter behind, with an awkward bump. Hungary looks like it's great at slaughtering smaller teams, but doesn't really know what to do with real opposition and Portugal had really terrible connection between their defensive and offensive players.

Yeah, didn't look like there was going to be any goals. Then Hungary had a goal disallowed for offside, and Portugal suddenly got 3 from out of nowhere after that (quite lucky on a couple of them, but still). Thought it looked like an offside on the 3rd goal, but VAR apparently never checked it. Massive deflection on the first, leaving the goalie with no chance. The penalty looked like it was the right call.

I did expect Portugal to win before the game, but not like that. :embarrassed:

Getting ready for Finland - Russia. Gonna be interesting to see how it's gonna go. Hopefully the Finnish team gets to experience an EC game without drama.

If Russia plays as terrible as they did against Belgium, there's a small chance to get something out of it and then the 2nd round would actually be within reach. But let's see, they might just get absolutely demolished.

Cool to see the whole team doing their warm-ups in "get well Christian" shirts.

Wow... I did not see that coming :embarrassed:

EDIT, nvm, half a centimeter offside -.-

Gotta say, even with VAR, that's one sketchy ass offside call.

Only watched the Finland game today, had to play myself after (1-1, but at least I did my job and scored :embarrassed:)

Finland was surprisingly good. I think they can be proud of how they played as a debuting team. And I think some players like Kamara, Hradecky, Uronen and O'Shaughnessy might be playing at bigger clubs after summer. Too bad they had a goal canceled and gave the 0-1 away quite silly, but all in all it could have been worse as well.
