Euro 2020 (in 2021)

Southgate is a fucking idiot btw. Two subs to take pens on without really having time to get into the game, and you put that sort of pressure on a 19 year old.
Dreadful management.

Italy have deserved the trophy though. They've been the best team in this tournament by far. :thu:

Deserved winners!

football is coming Rome

but yeah, what was Southgate thinking?

Shit like all the English players immediately taking off their medals on cam is exactly why nobody outside of England wants them to win....

to be honest, Southgate bringing up WW2 after the Germany match already took care of that.

Seen that from most losing teams for quite awhile to be honest irrespective of club or nationality. Gutted about the result but fair play to Italy for holding their nerve in the shoot out.

Rashford is a recognised penalty taker but Sancho and Saka should have been nowhere near that, it needed older more experienced heads. I'd rather Shaw and Henderson had taken those, or maybe Grealish.

Usually a few players take them off, but not as blatantly awkward right in front of the dude and the camera like this. This was just pathetic.

You know Italy are always bring up the goods when it comes to hold their nerves during a penalty shootout. They have all the experience.

Maybe Southgate wanted to go for the surprise element by having Saka take the decider? Otherwise I can’t explain it.

Saka has probably been good at them in training. But you just can't train for the decisive penalty in a final with a full stadium for a country that's so desperate to win something again.
Would make more sense having someone like Shaw (as an example) taking it. He's experienced and should be able to handle the pressure better.
Southgate got too clever imo. And overall in the final he did show his limitations as a manager.

I can only imagine the vile, racist abuse Saka, Rashford and Sancho will be getting online the next few days. And that's not even including the Daily Mail and that other rag that shall not be mentioned by name. One of them has already experienced that from fans of his own club.

My final word on this subject:

Beautiful first goal, but England was rightfully punished for scheming on being boring for the remaining 88 minutes of the match. Italy fought well, had more than 60% possesion and deserved the win.

Youre right of course, the whole of England would have assaulted that woman, if those idiots that did attack her, hadn't.

This is the interesting thing. For the Ukraine game, being in Rome, the Engerland fans where noticeably more civilised and well behaved because the only people who could go where ex-pats based in Europe. The usual suspects who travel with England had to stay at home and smash up their own bars.

England attract a certain element. They may not be representative of the whole nation, but they are the fans of Engerland and why I can't bring myself to support the team.

Saka is only 19? Well, the Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma is 22.

Big difference here is that Donnarumma is despite his age a very experienced player. That guy was playing regular league football already at 16/17 and has played over 30 times for his country.
Saka has had one good season at Arsenal and hadn't played for his country before this tournament.

Those England fans showed their worst side again yesterday. The scenes before and after the game were... disappointing.
The England team does attract a certain type of people who love to cause trouble.
It is quite interesting that stuff like this doesn't happen anymore (or it's very rare) when English clubs are off playing CL and Europa League games.
Oddly enough some Italian clubs are among the worst when it comes to out of control supporter groups.

And as expected, Saka, Sancho and Rashford has already been given shitloads of racial abuse on social media.
I will never understand how some fans first instinct after losing a game is to go online and racially abuse a player you're unhappy with (while conveniently forgetting that if it wasn't for Sterling England probably wouldn't be anywhere near a final). And in a couple of months some of these "fans" will cheer on the same player when playing for the club they support again.
To be fair this isn't only an English problem though, but it does happen alarmingly often.
