Harley all day long. I despise the buzzsaw tone of ricers, whether 2 or 4 wheels. Yeah, I know some Harley riders make noise for the fun of it, but loud pipes do save lives.

Not really....and I have owned a harley with pipes that set off car alarms as I rode past.

It's hard to quantify. But there have been plenty of riders killed because the other driver "didn't see them". So based on that, if your presence is obvious due to noise (like when a bike is in my blind spot) I do believe it is true. I know I have avoided cutting off a bike in my blind spot based on hearing them.

up against the wall with both/all of 'em. noise annoyances are a big pet peeve of mine.

Actually there have been studies and they've reached the same conclusion as I have w/ a couple decades of experience.

I've been the owner of both equally offensive vehicles. Apologies to all that I annoyed with my prelude or harley.

Personally, I don't mind the bikes as much as the cars. The cars tend to get driven way more frequently and have been more prevalent in locations I've lived so my exposure to their noisy fart cans has been far greater.

Harley. While too loud, I sort of enjoy the sound. Not so with the ratty sounding street race cars.

I can empathize with the guy with a shitty car. Not so much the guy who paid extra to be obnoxious.
yeah, this for me too - but also not so much for the guy who drives obnoxiously and makes extra noise that way either, regardless of the shittiness of the car

Unless they got their catalytic converter stolen, typically they both paid
I interpreted that as differentiating between a noisy vehicle that's noisy because it's in poor shape vs one that's noisy because of intentional additions/modifications/cost - not exactly the OP scenario, but a good distinction.

Im going with the Honda for the simple fact that loud Harleys are usually louder than loud Hondas..

I also don't buy the "loud pipes save lives" argument. You know what saves lives? A Volvo. Other people's eardrums shouldn't have to foot the bill for your choice of an inherently unsafe mode of transportation.

I have to go with the Harley. They are driven by boomers that are in bed by 10 pm, or have night blindness from glaucoma, so they are more of a daytime and weekend annoyance. Honda cars with loud exhaust are driven by teens that are out all day and often late at night, making noise while I am at home trying to sleep.
