Coffee Madness!

There's some skill making good coffee here. Getting the steam to bubble it through without boiling and making it bitter.

Just make sure that you clean the pot. A dirty pot is probably more of an issue. I just pull it off the burner when the pot is 1/2 way to the spout and all is good.

I had some today. Actually, I've been drinking it all day. It is a really tasty coffee and I am extremely pleased with the purchase. Note: I drink all my coffee black.

A friend just gave me a pound of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. I brew that in the french press.
I'll use the same process for my Spring-Heel'd Jack Coffee when it arrives.

During weekdays I just drink the cheapest home brand coffee from a supermarket here. It's actually good, a lot better (and darker roasted) than more expensive coffee. I use a bialetti to make it. During the weekend I usually grind some beans, I have several nice bags of beans laying around.

Those are some nice machines y'all got there. Our go to is a Breville with a built in burr grinder. For our commercial stuff, we use either a grindmaster, or Bunn grinder. I mentioned in another post that I just happen to own a coffee roasting company. My son does the day to day roasting, but the whole family's involved. We sell on amazon ( Amazon product ASIN B07HNSC5MS ) or at our site, www.springheeldjack.coffee.

My wife and I have been roasting our own beans for going on 20 years. We just used a little Behmor roaster that looked like a toaster oven. About three years ago, we took the leap and bought a professional roaster. It does around 3.5 lbs at a time and we've really outgrown it. Next stop is a 12 kilo roaster, price tag $27,000. Yikes.

We had been operating for about 6 months when we decided to send the hosts of Last Podcast on the Left some coffee. Since we took our name from one of my favorite episodes (UK Horrors). Well, they mentioned us on the podcast. Within an hour of them posting the episode we started getting orders. We actually got to know them a little bit and they've mentioned us several times and its really helped. Then we kind of hooked up with some local tattoo shops (we provide them cold brew) and with word of mouth, we're looking to maybe turning a profit this year (but then again, we need that roaster). A couple of you ordered and we either packed those last night or will do it tonight. My son started a tradition where we include a hand-written note with every order from our site. At first, it was easy. But now, we spend a lot of time writing notes. Our customers are more like friends.

Anyway, my daily coffee is our Black Phillip (from The Witch), which is a South American/Indonesian blend. Lately, I've been making American Crow (named for a local tattoo place). The Black Phillip is just a good cup of coffee - it's a medium/dark roast and has great body and notes of chocolate and caramel. Basically, this is the coffee that you're thinking of when you just want a good cup of Joe (or Phillip). We sell single source beans, but we've found that by blending we can get really good flavors that stay consistent.

We also sponsor a paranormal/true crime/horror movie review podcast called FRIGHTDAY. It's not nearly as profane or popular as Last Podcast, but it's a good podcast.

I'm gonna talk to my son and see if we can't work out a Mark Wein discount.

Also, our cold brew is fucking amazing. We just bought a canner, so hopefully, we'll be able to ship canned nitro cold brew within the next few months.
Got my coffee this afternoon. It's 6:30 and I finally found time to brew a cup. Sweet and smooth.
Thanks again!

Thanks, man! Did you like the note? We started that when we were shipping maybe 10 orders a week. When it got busier, we stopped, but godamn we heard about it. So now there's a chance that you'll get a note from one of four of us.

just got my order of 1/2 lb Dagon and 1/2 lb Old Scratch...I decided to try the Dagon first . mmmmmm, mmmmm (<<<<<that's my review  )

Really great cup though and I'll definitely be buying more. I've been doing the mail order coffee thing since 1997 in fact that was some of the firsat stuff I did on the internets....search for coffee. I've ordered from small local independants throughout the PNW, British Columbia, S.F, Chicago, all over and my goto now is Old Bisbee Coffee Roasters in Bisbee, AZand Adventure Coffee Roasting in Tucson. I like to think I know great coffee.
Your coffee is right up there with any of them (and you got the best packaging...love the artwork, etc) but a damn fine cup of joe is what it's about in the end and you got that!

Thanks for the kind words, man. I think you two got yourself treats in the next order.

The art is by a guy named Sam Heimer. He does the artwork for Abomination Brewing. He was a customer back when our logo was just a cut out from a victorian magazine. He took the idea and ran with it. Our new bags will have Jack sitting on a gravestone and the tape that holds the bag closed will be the blend. He also did an illustration for our The Hessian blend. It will be a T-shirt very soon. It's an awesome headless horseman. Thanks again.

I can't do the upside-down method with the Aeropress. It doesn't give me enough coffee :embarrassed: I like about 12 oz., so I do it right-side up and let the coffee drip until I can get the full 12oz. of water in it. Then I put the plunger in and pull back on it to get that vacuum seal so it stops dripping thru, and I let it sit for a couple of minutes before plunging.

I'm a french press guy, but one of my favorite Youtube channels, Technology Connections, just posted a video about the worst way to make coffee: The Percolator!

I’ve quit coffee during this quarantine. Mostly because I used to go to Starbucks on a daily basis. I actually feel much better after several weeks without it.
