Any motorcycle enthusiasts in Weinertown?

I am an enthusiast but currently without said motorcycle. I sold mine to pay off some bills (glad I did) but I am saving up for something in the hopefully near future.
I had a Kawasaki Vulcan S. Absolutely loved that bike. I'll probably get another one.

I just did a ride from my home town in southern IN to Lexington Ky, down through coal country. Ended up on Bristol VA. Then back to Lexington via a different route. Lots of twisty, hilly roads down in eastern KY.

Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures.

That's my bike on the left.

I’ve owned a ton of bikes from a mini bike at about 5 years old until I sold my Ultra Classic in 2009. Still love bikes but currently without due to time constraints and distracted drivers.

I have been riding since I was 13.
I sold off my Fat boy a few years ago.
The riding bug hit again, and I am trying to buy this one.

I rode motorcycles even before bicycles as a youngster. Our whole family rode dirt bikes back then.

I sold my last bike when my son was born.

I'd love to ride one of Triumph's new beasts.

I rode up until the 90's when I got hit by a truck. Didn't kill me, but it killed my enthusiasm.

It was getting too dangerous to ride around town back then (and I'm pretty sure Houston has the absolute worst drivers, bar none, of any city I have ever been in). I can't imagine what it's like nowadays with literally every other driver staring at a phone instead of the road. Yet I still see riders cruising around town wearing shorts, flip flops, and no helmet.

The only riding I did as a youngster was the occasional spin on a friends Trail70 or other mini bike. Folks wouldn’t let me near one. When I got out of college and on my own, early 1980s, I bought a Kaw LTD 550, sold it after about 5 years. Then a couple of years later got the bug again and had a Honda Vt500 Ascot for a few years. Then got married and quit riding for 25 yrs. Mrs. Pine is terrified of em. Well, I’m now retired and I wanted to ride again before I get too old. So back in the spring I went and paid cash for a new Lowrider.
Yea, it can be scary out there for sure. A few close calls are what sold away my old bikes. But I figure now I got way less lifetime left to loose. Not to say I’m not extremely cautious and always assume the cages are out to kill me at all times.
I’ve taken one 300 mi trip this summer. Hopefully I can get in a week long tour in the fall.

I got my license a few years back, post-40. It was fun. I had a little Ninja, then sold it with the intent to buy a bigger bike the next spring. My ex had other ideas...

I may buy another someday.

If the closest Triump dealer wasn’t 150 miles away, that’s probably what I would have gotten, but there’s a good Harley place 30 min away. I wanted something fairly heavy, comfortable, and new, because I plan on some serious touring. However I really didn’t want to drive a big ol bagger around town everyday. Hence the Lowrider. Looked at new metrics, but decided to go HD for resale, and WTH, I can afford it. There’s an Indian dealer near me also, but It’s a chain with a bunch of other brands, and not nearly as good of a customer service reputation as the Harley place.

I had planned to take at least a week for a ride down the coast this summer but schedules didn’t permit. The possibility of a fly and ride in Colorado came up but with caring for our elderly dog, it’s tough to have one of us away for multiple days and nights. Right now I’m looking to just take some vacation days here and there for some day trips and a maybe couple overnights. Might do a section of the ORBDR

Last year I got a few great trips in over the summer:
Ran up into Canada, over through Vancouver and Vancouver island. Then did the Olympic peninsula and came back though Astoria.
Did a few days of the WABDR and that was a blast.

Water stop on the WABDR last year with a buddy who flew in and rented a bike

Getting back into motorcycles was a tentative process for me.
First I got a 50cc Yamaha scooter. It’s fun, but I didn’t realize the top speed was so low, about 39mph. That’s fine for a country lane or city, but I found myself getting run up on in the rear almost as much as if I was on a bicycle. It’s just too dangerous for most of the roads I wanted to ride. I still have it, and use it for quick trips to the store or a casual country ride. Ive taken it on a camping trip or two and it makes a nice little accessory for the camper.

So I decided I need a real motorcycle, and got myself a Kawasaki VersysX 300, a small “adventure” bike. After about 6 months I realized I had made another poor choice.
It didn’t take long to realize that at 62 with rheumatoid arthritis I’m just not physically capable of going off-road to any degree. I realized one day out in the middle of the national forest that if I go down out here by myself I’m in a world of hurt. The fantasy of doing multi days on the trans America trail was just that, a fantasy. Too unsafe to do by myself, and a liability to any group I might join.
Also I took a couple of 300-400 mile multi day camping trips on the VersysX and discovered it’s main touring liability. Not comfort, not a lack of power, but it’s light weight, tall profile, and all that plastic fairing made the thing a sail on the highway. In a 30mph cross wind gusting to 50mph, shear terror trying to keep the thing on the road.
So away went the VersysX. I still have the little scoot but if I find a buyer it’s probably gone as well.

So far I’m really happy with the Harley, it’s performed perfectly for what I want to do.

All those bikes are classics Mongoose. I’d love to own an old Honda 750 four.
What’s you town? I’m fortunate to be kinda out in the country, 5 miles from a town of 10,000, 7 miles from a small city of 60,000, and 3o miles from a 100,000+ metro area. Yea there are crazy drivers, but it’s a lot saner than a big place like Metro Atlanta.

This was my first bike, early 80s Kawasaki LTD 550, can’t remember the exact year.

This was my next one, got it used around 1991-92, mid 80s’ Honda VT 500 Ascot. Man this thing could take a curve, scared myself on it because it was so nimble.

at the time i was stationed just north of Valdosta Georgia. out in the sticks.

presently, i'm in god awful Toledo, Ahiya (Ohio). metro area is about 500,000. in the 80's it was closer to 700,000. and we're 45 minutes from DeToilet. so there's that.

there is not a day that goes by that i'm not at an intersection or 2 or 3 that assholes go flying thru AFTER their light has turned red and ours has turned GREEN!!! two of them at lunch today.

Here’s my little Yammie scoot. Yamaha lied in the specs about the top speed. They claimed 45, it’s never hit 40. 6 mph makes a big diff on a road with a 55 mph speed limit.
