And now I jettison the diet soda and energy drinks from my life.

Meth, Mark. Meth.

But, seriously, I read somewhere that a can of non-diet pop a day will add 10lbs a year. Plus the ill effects of the sugar buzz/crash thing. Coffee (black) has it's pro's and con's, but I think in moderation--and earlier in the day--and if you like it--it's mostly OK.
I went on the Atkins diet once. It was a little tough at first, but I dropped 25 lbs in a month, and had more energy. It was worth it, but it's tough to stay on. All proteins, fats, and greens. Not too bad if you really like steak, seafood, bacon, cheese, non-starchy veggies, and salad. Or a nice MLT sandwich--mutton lettuce and tomato--but don't eat the bread.

About Aspertame artificial sweetener

Over a billion people consume aspartame in their foods and beverages across the world, believing it to be a safe ingredient, but what they probably don't know is that aspartame currently accounts for over 75% of all side effects complaints received by the FDA's Adverse Reaction Monitoring System (ARMS) for the past 4 years. It is banned by health-conscious countries all over the world, especially where there is a national healthcare system in place. Nearly all diet sodas, gum and most candy (not chocolate - yet) are loaded with Aspartame.

Aspartame is best known by the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Sweet One and Spoonful.

Suspiciously similar to the symptoms of Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis, Aspartame's long list includes dizziness, headaches, behavioral changes, hallucinations, depression, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, fatigue, irritability, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain. Also, many illnesses can be worsened by ingesting Aspartame, including chronic fatigue syndrome, brain tumors, epilepsy, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, mental retardation, and especially diabetes.

I can believe it. Physically I feel much better already.

So somehow with all of the choas of the weekend and the food poisoning and whatnot I inadvertently detoxed from caffeine completely. I have had any since Friday morning coffee, and that includes 3 gigs. I'm afraid to have anything caffeinated at this point because I feel pretty good and so far I haven't been getting too tired at night.

I'm drinking this half-caff shit now...
it tastes about the same as the other shit I used to buy.
it was on sale, so I figured why not...with the amount of coffee I drink in a day, a little less caffeine wouldn't hurt.

well, its been about a week and a half. Not a single energy drink and I had a small diet coke when we went to the McDonalds on Saturday and it tasted like Windex to me.

It's amazing how quickly your body adjusts when separated from shit like that. I'm still amazed at how tastes can change by eating or drinking certain things more or less often. Lately, I get cravings for apples, bananas, and orange juice. My mouth starts watering just thinking about them. drool0
