And now I jettison the diet soda and energy drinks from my life.

I dunno how you "married with kids" guys do it.
single (again, finally), no kids, and I don't seem to have enough hours in a day.
granted, work takes 10hours outta the day, with travel time, but even days off...*VROOM!*
there it went

I need to be wealthy and work-free.

well, I usually get home from work at 9:30 or later every night and by that point in the day I haven't even seen my wife yet.

I admire and respect your work ethic. It seems like the average working class person does not get enough sleep... I used to work full time, and then do side jobs after work and on weekends when I was in my 20s and 30s, but I just don't have the drive anymore... I'm not afraid to work, but my body really can't do physical labor for much more than 6 to 8 hours a day, day after day... I just count my blessings I can get away with that... Helps to have a good trade...

Now, I say all this, but a few years ago, before I moved up here, I was taking a lot of work with another electrician friend of mine, and he is a madman... We worked for several weeks on a job from 7 AM to 10 at night... I was pretty damn burned out by the end of the job, but after a few days rest, was just fine... We collected quite a bit of money that month... So, I'll do that once in a while if the situation calls for it...

I'm just in a time in my life where I need to do this. I'm self employed with a young family in the middle of the shittiest economy in decades. I remember how my parents worked when I was a kid and the reality is that you can't sit on your ass and wait for someone to just hand you money when you own a business with a physical location. Even without that it's hard but it's definitely a "rubber meets the road" time in my life.

I finally got rid of drinking diet sodas this past summer. My drinks consists of water, iced tea and hot tea (black and green daily).

I remember my Dad working up to 14 hours a day. He was partners in a real estate appraisal company. He made up for it on the weekends when possible.

I usually only get 5-6 hour sleep between night shifts. The last few days off, I've slept 8-11 hour each night, plus a 2-3 hour nap in the day. That says quite a bit about the shift work effects.

I averaged 5 - 6 hours of sleep a night for the past 15 years or so... along with my sleep apnea... my health was suffering. Focus was horrible, weight gain, etc.

I don't know if you guys see a difference, but at work and home now that I'm sleeping at least 7 to 7 1/2 hours of sleep (sometimes even eight!! ) I find that I'm a little neater and more organized at home and work, and I am slightly less likely to "stress eat" and "boredom eat".

I am trying to make the change for sleep. Made the change for increased exercise by getting involved in the upcoming 10K and half-marathon. I had to make the change in order to improve my life. I was starting to feel like the whale on teh beach.

My father (retired) was a high school teacher who adjuncted at the local university and also at a not so local prison, refereed basketball in the winter, and painted houses and worked in an orchard in the summer. As time went on, he gave up the house painting, orchard work, and the prison work. It took me a long time to realize that he was doing all of that because he had to in order to keep enough money coming in. My mother going back to work full time helped as well. I feel for you, Mark, with the young kids and your own business. You guys have a lot going on.

Glad to hear you're giving up the energy drinks. Coffee grows on you and is definitely not the worst thing you can do. It has it's benefits also. For me it's either coffee or water and probably 1 pop (soda) a month. Never had an energy drink ever.

too late.
it's firmly ensconced in my head that energy drinks are made of bovine jizz.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
*points at energy drink drinkers*

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Mark, having such a schedule as yours is most difficult to find the time to do things right. But one thing is for sure, an increase in your sleep can only help your health. Being self employed for the last 30 years has taught me one thing. Without good sleep one's health can go bad quickly. Self employment is stressful, but I made it fun by having a job that I liked to do. And yes, having family, house and business expenses add up quickly, oh! how stressful. I have the same problem today (but not as much) and I'm nearing 60 !

Actually no.... it's formed from Animal bile from the large intestine. Semen is a wive's tale.

That's what the companies say to get past the marketing, no one would ever drink somethign with bull semen in it. :/

I can live with that.

They see plenty of punani.
