but ..meth ..didn't exist back then, so there's that.
It absolutely did exist then. It may not have been on your radar, but it was developed in the first part of the 20th century, and was freely distributed to troops on all sides of WWII. It was also pretty big in some parts of the US during the 60's. Remember the phrase "speed kills"?

I would also imagine an increase of out of staters with stupind bumper stickers (highway 420, What would Jesus legalize {all in green letters of course}, etc) and also panhandling outside the "medical" marijuana dispensary (hey bro I need a miracle) or holding their signs up at the intersections (visions of a cheeseburger).....
That's quite an imagination you have. It's legal here, and I have seen none of that. Possibly because it hasn't really been a legal issue here even long before it was legalized. Anyone remember 'County of Santa Cruz v John Ashcroft'?

believe we're talking about two, not completely, but different things.
i think what you're talking about is tablet/pill form. i was kinda referring to the smoked/power/chunk form. the one that can kill the very first time.
i think one would have to ingest a number of pills to have that radical of a reaction. but in any case, no it was not on my radar. regular amphetimines were.

Crystalnacht or whatever it was called.

Meth (we called it "crank" in the '80s-'90s) is arguably the worst substance you can put in your body. I've seen it destroy lives first hand.
But it ain't gonna kill anyone the first time.

You're comparing apples to Pineapples dude....California , especially Northern has always been known as weed country....it's old hat. There's no romanticism to it

Colorado on the other hand is sleepy little mountain hamlets which have always attracted out of towners "dirtbags" (seasonal ski "bums" , rock climbers, etc) couple that with Colorado's high profile of dispensaries and all...it was a marriage made in heaven for 20 somethings or anyone else wanting to live the 420 lifestyle. I don't think my immagination is aanything special . A guy who worked with me last year said his sister in law who had no job prospects or anything was moving to Colorado just for the dispensaries...

Just partook for the first time in like five years Saturday night. Had the house to myself, did grueling yardwork all day and wanted to see how it would affect me. I was a stoner in my teenage years but it started causing anxiety in my 20's so I quit. I've been curious how I'd react recently so my friend gave me a little to burn at my leisure. It wasn't bad, I was relaxed, laughed at some dumb shit on TV and inevitably got the munchies. Though I feel if I didn't pace myself I'd feel the heart racing and palms sweating. I plan on eating a gummy next weekend for test #2, if that goes well I'll also eat one at the Bon Iver show since I kinda want that to be my transcendental concert experience of the year. Will report back.

Not quite daily. I'm sure I've missed a few since I was 16. Actually, when my first daughter was born, I cut back quite a bit. Then I got cancer in 2015. I got my medical card and discovered a whole new world. Obviously, since it was in my lung, I wasn't smoking, so I got to try all these alternative ways of ingesting it. The biggest help for me was as a pain reliever. I had been on oxycodone for over a year and I'm fairly sure I'd be addicted to it badly now if it wasn't for marijuana infused honey, gummi bears and oatmeal cookies. They're doing studies now in one of the local hospitals with patients with broken ribs, to see if marijuana is a viable replacement for opioids, as a painkiller. So, these days, I take it as needed in the evening to take the edge off the pain, and occasionally just recreationally when I'm jamming with friends.
