2019 Concert thread

that guy can play.
Indeed.

I imprinted pretty hard on Camper Van Beethoven back in college and it stuck. The first time I saw CVB was in the late 80s and my face was melting and David Lowery was turning into a dragon, but I'm sure that's completely unrelated.

My affection for CVB made it easy to get excited about Cracker. This was a bar gig in Birmingham, AL. August and Everything After had only been out a few months and "Mr. Jones" was getting a little play, but Cracker was still the draw.

I used to love CvB.
Last night's setlist to the best of my recollection:

Seven Languages
Too High for the Love-In
Tania
All Her Favorite Fruit
We Saw Jerry's Daughter
Surprise Truck (with "Hava Nagila", "Kashmir", and "Dazed and Confused")
All Her Favorite Fruit
Good Guys and Bad Guys
S.P. 37957 Medley
One of These Days
Take the Skinheads Bowling
(We're a) Bad Trip

Anniversary weekend, so me and Mrs. CBH are gonna go see TTB tomorrow night (at her request) with Blackberry Smoke and Shovels And Rope (?) opening. I like TTB, but we just saw them last fall, and I wasn’t in a hurry to see them this soon again, but she loves them. Outdoor show, so hopefully the wet heat subsides a bit by showtime.

@dmn23 I used to busk in the Harvard Square T (subway) station and do "Good Guys and Bad Guys" into "Eye of Fatima." Crowd pleaser.

That was a very, very, very long time ago.

Just got back from Alice Cooper & Halestorm. Motionless In White was supposed to play to, but the concert got delayed because of a thunderstorm, so they were knocked off the bill.

Whatever you think of Halestorm, sophmoric lyrics, etc. they really do bring it, live. Heck their debut album came out in 2009, and they've been on the road constantly since (and for several years prior to the debut), so they've had alot of practice honing their live performances.

I'd never seen Alice Cooper before. Glad I went, it was a very good show. Yeah, everything's choreographed, only played the hits/well known songs, and I'm sure it's probably the same old show they've done for years now, with slight differences. But for someone never having seen them, it was good.

It's in Aurora tonight. Son is going. I'm not and, very jealous.

Yeah, that’s a bit of a trip from Dayton to Aurora, but hey, I don’t make the schedule.

FWIW, TTB was ON FIRE last night - all upbeat, nothing slow, no breaks - they just brought it. Maybe because it was a shorter set due to the 3-act bill (just over an hour and a half), but it was a MUCH better show than when we saw them last fall. Blackberry Smoke was fine (not nearly as raucous as I woulda thought), and Shovels and Rope were really good (Husband and wife duo), with a Squier Bass VI prominent through the first two songs.

I'm going to that show on Tuesday :). It'll be my first time for Halestorm. Will be my 5th time seeing Alice in recent years - he actually does change the set up a decent amount between tours - School's Out, Poison, and Eighteen are always on there, but the rest can have some variation and he usually mixes in some of his newer stuff. I also have to say his current band is ridiculously tight and professional and that really helps the show.

I have tickets for the Royal Affair Tour Wednesday night with a meet and greet afterward with Yes. I think I've seen every version of the band in the past, but this is the first opportunity to meet them. Should be fun.

Saw it last night. I always dig Alice live. Loved the giant dancing baby, that was new - as was the whole "Steven/Dead Babies section :). Recent previous tours that section was "The Ballad of Dwight Fry". Haven't heard him do "Muscle of Love" in forever.

Halestorm tore it up. I expected that.

The surprise for me was the part you missed - I'd not previously been familiar with Motionless in White, and didn't expect much, but ended up REALLY liking their set. It's not my normal style, but they had great stage presence, won the audience over better than an opening band normally does, and sounded great. I'm youtubing some of their stuff this morning :).

Mojo to Aahzz.

Maiden was a blast, I'm glad I went. They had some monitor issues in the first couple songs, Bruce talked about it while they fixed it, but it sounded good out front. I'm guessing this will be their last tour that is good, they all looked pretty rough and Bruce left a bunch of singing up to the crowd. During the encore, they did Run to the Hills and I'm not sure who was off tempo, but the opening was all jacked up. But it was Maiden, the show was a real show and highly entertaining. Seeing Steve point the bass like a gun while his left leg was perched on a monitor made the 15 year old in me go nuts. Nicko's drum fills during Run to the Hills on the giant monitors did the same.

Dave Murray really stole the show for me last night. He sounded great and probably played 60% of the solos with Smith and Gers splitting the other 40%.
