The Incredible Evolving Song! Who wants to play a recording game?

Thanks. I'll look through that.

I used to record with Cakewalk and I figured out all the niggly bits that are a pain in the ass... like how to turn that goddamned metronome off... and how to set the levels for playback while you're recording new tracks, etc.

I usually try to record everything in as few tracks as possible, but I always drive myself crazy during mixdown.... listening to parts over and over until my brain is numb. Listening through monitors, through headphones, and eventually the car.... I hear shit in my mixes that drives me crazy that nobody else would even notice.

Maybe it would do me some good to record some tracks and let someone else mix it so I don't put myself through all that.

I've got plenty of storage space and bandwidth, it's just the uploading of humongous files that's a pain in the ass.

I've zipped the files though, and now have one of two zip files uploading.

You guys should be able to download the zip, unzip it, and pull out the wave files.

It's still a huge file, but it's a lot smaller than the 14 combined wave files would have been.

Zip file would be fine with me. :)

Plus, you could set it to upload while you;re sleeping or something so you don't feel the need to keep checking up on it.

I'm actually uploading it right now from work.

I'll probably get a call from IT for hogging all the bandwidth in the network. :embarrassed:

Could you perhaps post the lyrics as well eventually? :embarrassed:
In case some of us might want to sing something.

Also, what's the tempo(bpm)?

I'll have to check the tempo when I get home. It was recorded to a click, so that should make it easy for certain drummers to come up with something. :poke:

Lyrics:

You put your arms around me
And you said you loved me so
And I know you wanted to stay with me
But I knew you had to go

A teardrop rolled as the snow filled up the sky
You packed your bags and kissed me goodbye

And I cried all the way to Boston
And I cried all the way from the promised land
And you know, now you know it feels like I've lost her
So I cried all the way to Boston

You promised you'd come back to me
And the day is oh so near
And the more I think about you
The more I wish that you were here

This endless highway comes between us tonight
But if you'll hurry, you'll be home by the morning light

And I'll cry all the way home from Boston
And I'll cry all the way to the promised land
And you know, now it doesn't feel like I've lost her
Cause she's coming home all the way from Boston

I pray to God that she'll come back to me someday
And if she does this time I'll never let her get away

And I cried all the way to Boston
And I cried all the way from the promised land
And you know, now you know it feels like I've lost her
So I cried all the way to Boston

Yes. If anybody would like to make it not so cheesy, that would be appreciated.

I haven't even read your lyrics, but I'm sure they are better than most anything I could have written. Like Tasty Chickin Sammich for example. So, I trust you didn't take my comment as disparagement. :embarrassed:

Not at all, but considering I wrote the song a couple of months before my 18th birthday, I don't think it'd be too hard to come up with less cheesy lyrics for it. :embarrassed:

I highly doubt anyone else here was writing better lyrics than that at that time in life. :embarrassed:
I sure as hell wasn't.

When I was 18, my (then future) brother-in-law and I wrote a chorus that went "I've got a wanger so I can bang her." I guess what I'm trying to say is, I agree.

At that age there are really only 2 things that matter - chicks and beer (hey, we can drink legally at 18 ).

And to be honest, not much has changed since. :embarrassed:

Some more lyrics I wrote when I was in high school:

Why do you keep hanging around
When you know that you're not wanted
You said you wanted your freedom
Well baby now you've got it
Now you've come back on your knees
Begging me to take you back
You think I'm kidding when I say "No"
But I'm as serious as a heart attack

Get outta my face
Get outta my face

You said that I'd come crawling back
But now we see who's crying
When I said I couldn't live without you
I guess that I was lying
Now I can go out and drink and fuck
Whoever I may please
If you really want to make me happy
Then get down on your knees

Get outta my face
Get outta my face

Aaahhh yes, the angry lyrics. Did plenty of those. :embarrassed:
