The Incredible Evolving Song! Who wants to play a recording game?

Been listening to it quite a bit today, and already have quite a few ideas of things that could be added/toyed around with.

Hopefully I'll have started on some serious business this coming weekend. :)

Shortly off to track some drums :)

Got lots of more or less crazy ideas to try out with this song.
With any luck some of them will work.

It's kind of challenging to "forget" the original song enough to build something new on top of its dismembered remains. I'm taking a couple days off from it, so I can go back to the tracks with a clean slate.

I plan to wait until a few people have already modified it, then pick and choose from the modified tracks.

Seeing as how I've known the song in its original form for so long, I'm gonna need to hear some new interpretations before I can even think about changing anything.

This is true. :embarrassed:

For the last couple of days I've been listening to it a lot, with everything but the bass and main acoustic muted. Really helps in getting creative with it. :)

I've stripped out the vocals, the drums, the bass and the electric rhythm. So, unless I'm mistaken, I'm focusing on the the acoustic tracks, and the electric lead track. I may add the bass back in, but it depends on where I end up going with my melody.

I really can't wait to see what people end up with. :)

Me neither.

On another note, you guys having the ability to strip away all the pieces and hear each individual track kind of makes me insecure. It's a lot easier to hear the mistakes when you're only listening to one track at a time. :embarrassed:

No problem.

We all do mistakes. The trick is getting good at covering them up. :embarrassed:

Recorded some drums. :)

I'll post em tomorrow.

OK, getting the ball rolling. :embarrassed:

Here's the mix of the drums I recorded yesterday:

Should line up fine with Prages' files.

All eq'd, compressed and with reverb for the drum mixing impaired.

For those who'd like more control over the drum tracks, I've got a zip file with the following individual/grouped tracks:

- Kick, with some eq and a tiny bit of compression
- Snare, with a 150Hz highpass and a bit of compression
- Stereo track of overheads, hihat and ride. Hihat and ride highpassed at 300. Overhead tracks untouched.
- Toms submixed to one stereo track. Some eq (pulling out some nasty low mid resonant freq's), otherwise nothing done to them.
- Room, mono track with nothing done to it.

And...

HEY! I did video as well.

Here's me doing funny faces while beating skins - to a dry rough mix of my drums and Prages' stuff. :embarrassed:

Full vid link for anyone who'd want it for ridicule or other purposes.

Alright, that's it for now I think. :embarrassed:

I think my version is definitely heading in a heavier direction. :embarrassed:

Added a new bass track, as well as a second heavy od track (done with a baritone guitar tuned in C# standard). Br00talz. :rawk:

This is starting to get fun.
