Achtung! Who else doesn't like

For the first time in a few years I'm feeling Christmassy :embarrassed:

Don't sweat the small stuff: Christmas shopping is nothing but a pub crawl disrupted by the odd bit of queueing to buy perfume. :thu:
 
I loved it growing up, so I cling to certain parts of it mostly out of nostalgia. I don't participate in office parties or gift exchanges and avoid shopping the days after Thanksgiving. I still put up lights and enjoy seeing others do the same.

Gift giving is about the kids. We no longer exchange with adults. We do visit with family since that is what really counts. Unfortunately, I've had to cut ties with my father and that part of the family.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love being together with the people I love most, celebrating the birth of the One who gives us the oppurtunity to be with these very same people for eternity. :thu:

I'm buying a starter guitar kit for my 10 y/o brother and 12 y/o sister to share. Plus a lifetime of free lessons from yours truly, if I can find the time.

I am grateful and happy for the things I have and will be given. Yes the consumerism is annoying but honestly that crap is year around anyways. Mom and Pa always did an amazing job of building up Christmas -- we had the whole month off school too (me and sis were homeschooled) -- so that helped.

If you can't find the joy in Christ(mas), then it will be very difficult to find happiness or fufilment in anything else. Enjoy the time you have with people, and the oppurtunity that you have to GIVE to others. Money and possessions are temporary and meaningless, why stress or get irritated about it? It all takes care of itself in the end.
 
I always find it an incredible anti-climax. A long buildup to.... a meal with family where everyone has to pretend they are having the best of time

That's an incredibly naive way to look at thing and you're still a young kid, so maybe the stress of the holidays hasn't quite landed on your shoulders yet. You also aren't taking into account that many, MANY people don't celebrate the "Christ" in Christmas and it's pretty presumptuous to claim that they'll lack happiness or fulfillment without it/him. Frankly, it's downright fucking offensive.

I've been a non-believer since I stopped believing in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, but I've always loved Christmas. It's a beautiful event for those who love and enjoy their families... But yeah, some have stressful/uncomfortable/strained family relationships, and many people have nobody.

just noticing a lot of unhappy sounding people in what is supposed to be a happy subject. And being nearly 21 years old I can defintely comprehend what someone like Mark is going through right now.

life isnt easy, i just don't see the point of having a negative view of 1/12th of it.

oh well, at least we can all look forward to new years eve!! :cheers:
 
I try to use it as a rare opportunity to take stock and do nice things for other people and put my own drama aside for a few days.

Aside from that I'm really annoyed by overkill customer service, the need for validation that they're doing a great job serving my needs, and a phone call two minutes later to take a survey regarding the great customer service that I received.
 
hate christmas. hate the greed. people practically knocking others over to GET THAT TOY.
hate the way people drive this time of the year. totally f-ing stupid.
yesterday i had to wait 10 minutes while some stupid bitch decided which SOUR CREAM to buy. pick one asshole, they're all the same.:mad:

Don't let it bring you down. you're getting a look into lives of folks that have been doing the same shit for a long time. hopefully you don't get like that, but you do seem wiser than your years.

Not trying to be a nancy negative and I am not an unhappt person at all. I enjoy many festivities, just xmas seems artificial and fake to me.

I enjoy New Year's Eve much more: relaxed night out/in with friends/family you actually want to spend time with, enjoying a couple of drinks (or more) without all the pretense and stress of xmas.

But that's just me :embarrassed:
 
I'm not a Christian, nor have I ever been. I do however enjoy Christmas quite a bit. Good food, get to hang out with family and friends, vacation time etc. Oh and I only buy two gifts, one for my mom, and one for my SO. I've made it company policy and it works out great.

Though it was a lot more fun as a kid in Canada, even if the temps were arctic.
 
my favorite holiday is...........memorial day (usa)......cook out on the grill.....have some beers and weather warm enough to wear shorts.....again.
 
My family stopped giving gift to each other years ago. We all have good jobs (well, a 'decent' job in my case) and have anything we need.

It's made the holiday much less stressful. A good time to get together and stuff ourselves with food and pie :)

I ran into a friend who owns a auto body shop and I asked him how was his business doing.
He replied, "It is great. We always get busy this time of year. People drive like idiots more than usual." :grin:

well, yea.....if i had kids....it would be a different story. but, no kids.....no family......just me.
i just don't have any tolerance for how much people become assholes during the last 2 weeks of december, at least around here.
