20-30 years from now we will look back on Trump with a kind of nostalgic amusement. By then, he's gonna seem like Mr Rogers compared to the bible-thumper/White Power goon squad the GOP will be unleashing upon the nation every election cycle.

Hell, today's GOP would use Mr. Rogers's Neighbourhood as a prime example of why PBS should be stripped of federal funding.

If Trump were to win this thing and get his hands on the launch codes, there may not be a 20-30 years from now.

I *hope* that both the Republican party and Democratic party will wake up and realize that the people are tired of the same-old they've been giving us election after election. The overwhelming support for outsiders Trump and Sanders should be a HUGE clue stick (dope slap as Click and Clack would say) to the parties that their current strategy isn't working.

I'd hope.... but I know better. They'll just double-down next time.

doesn't work like that. it requires "national command authority" to launch nuclear missles, and then the officers in the launch bunkers have to believe you, and it takes two of them sitting at separate launch consoles, 10 feet apart. both keys MUST be turned to the launch position AT THE SAME TIME.

national command authority means that POTUS and Sec Def have to concur on a launch, or POTUS fires the SecDef, and the Deputy SecDef gets the same order.....it can go on and on. THEN the chairman of the joint chiefs would order an on duty general to execute the order to the launch silos....but if anyone along the line refuses the order (treason) then it goes to the next in command.

in short, if trump decided to nuke someone and there's no cause for it except he's throwing a tantrum, there's a great likelyhood that the order would NOT be carried out.

Random related thought for the day. I was following behind a vehicle this morning that was festooned with a caché of bumper stickers ranging from "Trump 2016" to "Hillary lied, people died"... Yada Yada Yada. As I'm trying to reconcile the disconnect in my head between these folks who are still fuming over Benghazi, but have no problem with the previous administration lying its way into a pair of military conflicts that cost thousands of American lives and nearly bankrupted the country... I realize that the driver is a gentleman of advanced years. Perhaps 75-80... driving a Toyota... and not one made in Kentucky.

The irony was palpable. Disgusting and yet delicious.

I don't know what the future holds, but I wonder if 50 or 60 years from now, some older gent will be driving around proudly displaying his hatred for whatever group we hate at the time, in a car made in Pakistan or Iran.

Carry on.

Introducing Secretary of Defense Donald Trump Jr

I really wish these types of comments would stop showing up in this thread.

At times there has been good discussion, but this type of talk is going to keep anyone away who might have a differing opinion.

Maybe since the point of this thread is being aggravated with irrational facebook posters, this is a meta sort of thing and it went over my head. Hopefully.

Looks like the wheels are starting to fall off the campaign bus just as it gets rolling…

It’s not surprising. Trump didn’t have to put together a serious primary campaign because he’s been a celebrity for thirty years and the media made a story out of everything he did. And professional campaigners are probably giving Trump a wide berth to avoid being blackballed by all the politicians and journalists who hate Trump. But that might not matter. Trump isn’t going to stop being famous and clickbait. And the rest of the GOP are all running against Obama’s record, so Trump can just ride of them for the big picture.

All candidates are required to submit a financial disclosure statement. This has been the only peek we have into Trump's finances since he won't release his taxes. It looks like he has some serious debts he doesn't want the voters to see, like five loans each over $50 million. (The disclosure form, which presidential candidates must submit, does not compel candidates to reveal the specific amount of any loans that exceed $50 million, and Trump has chosen not to provide details.) Two of those loans are held by Deutsche Bank.

Yeah, he likes to claim he isn't held to corporate donations but it looks like he is held to corporate loans. I wonder how it will look to have the president of the US file for bankruptcy while in office? Would that be the third or forth time?

@335clone , @Tig ....i think (hope) that once the primary cycle concludes and the REAL campaign begins, things are going to change. if trump keeps refusing to release his tax and financial files, hillary is going to pounce on it and hammer at him, and i think the press will start to come about and change course on him. they're playing with him now because it's good 'reality' tv, but once the business turns serious and he really can't answer any questions of policy (real policy, not flippant replies) he's going to get hammered. remember, the main stream press really don't like republicans very much, they're only going along with this clown (for now) because it's such 'good fun'.
i think they'll turn on him later this summer.

IMO

This is why I feel confident that the world will never be in danger of a Trump presidency.
Unfortunately, some damage has already been done when you consider how the rest of the world now looks at the US because of him.

Well, the news sources are starting to call it. (Dem Primary) I like how the BBC handles it a lot better than the AP.
http://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-36465894

I don't like calling things before votes have been cast. it is a problem that has existed since before Hillary. Some years, it tends to make western voters feel as though their votes don't matter, which I think discourages participation. I wish there would be some sort of rules about reporting that would address this, but that would be problematic from a 1st Amendment pov. Pretty tough to tell people they cannot extrapolate and project based on their view of the math. Unfortunately, people mostly don't read far enough to realize it is extrapolations and projections (read educated guesses).
