well, the dismantling of america has begun.

do these fucktards NOT realize that not only are the people using ACA going to be instantly without insurance, but that nearly all of us will be, because employers won't be required to insure anyone anymore.

why are republicans so godamned set on fucking everything up that's helpful for the average american. is their profit margin THAT fucking important?

The bigger issue for me is why are their constituents so blindly against these things as well. I was listening to NPR the other day and they were talking about how the Republicans mastered the widespread use of false information when Sarah Palin started talking about "death panels" in relation to ACA. The Republican masses, about half of registered voters, bought it hook, line, and sinker.

These same voters initially have no issue with their representatives targeting Medicare and Medicaid...until they realize that it's what helps keeps grandma and grandpa in good health (and/or out from under potentially crippling medical debt). Or if they live long enough to be able to and need to take advantage of these resources. And privatizing Social Security? That's not about keeping it solvent, it's about injecting BILLIONS of dollars immediately into the private sector, benefiting the big banks and corporations in whose back pockets these politicians live.

That the Republican party has criminalized the notion of social welfare, that it is somehow bad and that helping your neighbors or any other U.S. citizens is bad. Worse is that most registered Republican voters (or even supporters), the vocal ones at least, completely buy into it as well...and HUGE amount of these people identify themselves as Christians.

But they love the military...the single largest social program funded by our tax dollars. SO fucking hypocritical.

What would Jesus do? Certainly not say "Fuck thy neighbor who is ill, unemployed, or what have you!" How about "Do unto others as you would have done unto you...unless they're dealing with a hardship of ANY kind!" Then go back to the new word of Christ above. I'm amazed at people in my wife's family that have used or still use WIC and have seemingly taken advantage of the evil Obamacare without realizing it while trashing social welfare programs.

That people blindly accept what their "leaders" tell them amazes and saddens me. And it's not that you can't agree with them, but to not look into things and learn about them and make sure that what they're saying to us and selling us is accurate...and make no mistake, this is all high level salesmanship...is infuriating. Basking in ignorance and getting what you deserve seems "fair", but in this case it's not just affecting them, it's affecting our nation.

From the "Are you a hipster" thread
This is exactly why Trump won America's Next Top President, egghead looser. WE the people don't need you 'experts' and your walls of text.

Once Obummer is gone, I'm coming to your hipster town to roll coal all over you.
John, I took the liberty of quoting your post over here so I could respond. Mark has allowed us political talk in this thread and I thought it better to reply here. It is interesting you posted that thought. As I read the hipster thread, and before I saw your comment, I thought that some of what the others were touching on might be part of the reason for Trump's success, particularly in rural areas. I moved from the greater Seattle area to the middle of Idaho in the late 90's. These are some perceptions I have since that time. The pace of change had seemed to increase greatly in my former urban home. My brothers and family become aware of certain things in tech, in land use attitudes, in food, in social mores, much sooner than they filter on over to me in this resort town.

I personally catch up via my connection to the internet and the influx of people I do business with from other places. An example would be uber. I had seen discussions and heard of it long before I really knew what it was and how it worked (we now have uber in sun valley), and long before it came to this resort town. It still is not in most areas in Idaho. And of course I have no idea what would be hip now, in a city, even if I was young enough to focus enough on those things. Sometimes when I go to a large city, or even my former home, I feel a little bit like an okie from muskokie in some respects, things have change so much. By comparison, when I drive out to the rural, agrarian/ranching towns that surround my resort and tourist based home, they seem even more left behind. Many places look like Clark Kent could be working on the old truck with his adoptive father. There is a big disconnect. "Hipster" trends are as foreign to rural Idaho as customs in inner Africa, it would seem to me. That is as far as I have thought it out. Interesting.

I've always said the fox news, Rush Limbaugh crew are some of the most brilliant people every. They can convince a man who has been lost in the desert for a week, that he doesn't need that glass of water. If they would only use their power for good, think of what could get accomplished.

i don't know about that. the way they are bragging it all up, it's going to be pretty hard to walk that back when the shit hits the fan.

It's built in. They've been selling it as a bad plan/garbage since day one. That (to them) is on the Dems, so the need to take it down and fuck over tens of millions of those on the ACA (and likely another close to 100 million who will be affected by the removal of the need for employers to provide healthcare options) is due to those liberal minions of evil.

Yup. If people are stupid enough to vote GOP once, they're stupid enough to vote GOP again and again and again.
not necessarily. i voted for reagan. i voted against bill clinton. i voted against algore. but i voted for obama, twice and for hillary (well, against trump too) this time.
but the way the landscape is now, i doubt i'll vote for a republican again in my life. i very seriously doubt that we'll see a Teddy type republican ever again.

This will be productive. My inlaws live off this street

I'd never argue against the reality of exceptions.

But yeah, you voted for Reagan, you've done your damage. I'm glad that you're doing your best to atone for that sin.

Dem/Rep is a weak binary. Conservative/liberal, north/south, rural/urban, etc., have all been far more telling at various points.

They’re not smart and they’re not doing anything hard. They just repeat a lie that makes people feel better about themselves. You’re better. You work harder. You’re smarter. You come from a great culture. You’re the backbone of our nation, not them. They’re the source of all the problems. You’re better than them. You’re the responsible one, they’re just blaming you. It’s an ancient concept. It’s how people were convinced that segregation was divinely ordained. It’s how governments propagandized anti-semitism. The Spartans and Athenians probably used the same methods against each other. They probably learned it from Phonecians who learned it from Sumerians who learned it from Egyptians.

If it isn't smart or hard, how come the Democrats haven't been able to do it? They can't even to get people to vote in their own best interests let alone against them.

The Democrats don't have the cohesion Republicans do. They spend too much time arguing amongst themselves. All Republicans get in line eventually, or they're forced out. Democrats take themselves down from the inside.

the democrats do not have the disinformation/fake news/propogana machine that the republicans do. foxx, limbaugh, etc.
cbs/nbc/abc/pbs may have a liberal slant at times, but they do not flat out fucking lie.

Because it's easier to point at someone and say "Your life sucks because that guy snuck across the border and took your job and that guy over there used his food stamps to buy a Cadillac" than it is to convince someone "vote for me and we'll have a job training program for you and in 5 years maybe you'll have a better job and I'll get you at least a basic level of health care." The predominant strain of conservatism is operating largely on the lizard brain level.
