OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

The NYT is reporting that CIA & Whitehouse leaks indicate that both the DNC And RNC were hacked but the Russian govt, indirectly involved, held the RNC data back possibly in an effort to assist Trump. As of right now, these are anonymous leaks. The RNC denies it was hacked & Republican officials who have been briefed say there's no smoking gun proving Putin tied to get Trump elected.

What isn't disputed: The DNC hack was disruptive to the election. The DNC hack was executed by hackers based in Russia who posted the info online & supplied data to Wikileaks (no direct evidence that it was state sponsored by the Russian govt but it also invalidates Trump's continued comment about it could have been a guy in NJ in his basement.)

I'd like to think that even partisan politics wouldn't outweigh serious national security concerns so I'm inclined to believe the dots still have yet to be connected if there was a any involvement by the Russian govt. It doesn't change the fact that the DNC got itself exposed playing politics with in it's own party with their own emails. It doesn't change the fact that foreign actors were able to meddle with the election & that's something that should trouble all of us, no matter who you supported.

Very much this. The fact that some of our leaders are reluctant to look into it is almost more disturbing than the hacking itself.

The FBI's meddling is a problem too, and it isn't being discussed.

I don't want to see this election reversed or anything like that, I'm thinking of future elections.

You want to make a bet on that? I'll give you 2 to 1 odds.

It's impossible to judge since we aren't privy to the briefing they have seen so we don't know how persuasive the circumstantial/indirect connection is. Even the NYT article states that none of the security agencies have been able to directly tie the Russian govt to the hacking or release of the data. Course as the investigation continues, that may or may not change. But yeah, I'd like to think that the Republicans would be pretty pissed if there was evidence that a foreign government finger blasted our electoral process.

I'd like to think that even partisan politics wouldn't outweigh serious national security concerns…

The GOP celebrated Condi Rice becoming national security adviser despite a lack of experience with the Middle East. Then they defended her when she lied to Congress on live TV about how her failure allowed the 9/11 attacks to happen. This is not a party that prioritizes national security.

I blame Ace Frehley.
LEAVE ACE ALONE!

I was talking about the "I'd like to think that even partisan politics wouldn't outweigh serious national security concerns" part. Republicans have proven time and again over the course of decades that party loyalty is more important than the health and security of the nation. Sure, they talk a big "America, fuck yeah!" game, but where the rubber meets the road, they choose party over country every damned time.
