It's beautiful to me that the Democrats have doubled down on their "culture war + wall street" approach by retaining Pelosi. All of the hysterical temper tantrums about Trump's fascism are hilarious, because the DNC is paving the way for actual fascism in the event of a financial collapse.

Breitbart links incoming!!!

this disaster with carrier is really disturbing.

now anytime a company wants to threaten sending jobs overseas trump gets to singlehandedly decide if he wants to offer them tax payer money to keep less than half of the jobs they want to send.

so how do we even know if they really wanted to send all of those jobs? If it were me and I wanted to send 1,000 jobs I would tell trump I planned to send 2,000. I would get the 7 million in free money from the tax payers and still send the 1,000 I originally wanted to send in the first place.

more proof that dumpster is unfit to be prez. but it was INDIANA....and we KNOW who else is from there.

pence gave carrier 1.7 million in 2011 for them to keep jobs there.

they still shipped the jobs overseas and were forced to give the money back.

seems like a plan you want to keep trying. I am sure if you give them more money it will end up with a different result.

You guys just don't understand deal making. Trump literally wrote the book on it! This is a tremendous deal. And he'll be making tons of tremendous deals just like it for the next four years.
Did I mention tremendous?

I had a meeting with a local union the other day. They were up-front in stating that there's lots of work here in New York solely because of corporate tax breaks. Yeah, wage workers pay for it in their payroll taxes. But there's plenty of work, and in that particular union, pay is very good. There's definitely two sides to this argument.

More importantly, this is not how the leaders of the federal government should be thinking. If the president starts cutting tax deals with everybody who wants to close a small plant the tax code is just going to become a nastier mess. The federal tax code needs the sweeping reforms that GOP always promises and never passes. Not more special interest handouts.

Something to consider is that carrier announced their intention to move these jobs back in Fed 2016. Probably were already in talks w/ the state of Indian officials well before that announcement anyway.

The interesting question is how much more leverage did Pence bring to the negotiations once Trump & Pence won the election?
Easy to speculate there's plenty of promises wrapped up into this on relaxed regs and plenty of future defense spending to UTX.

Either way, I'm sure those folks who get to keep working and their community are plenty happy. The bigger problem is how do you transform American manufacturing so that it's economically competitive on some global scale. Tax breaks and promises aren't going to sustain the unsustainable for ever.

its not sustainable at all. in 2011 pence gave them 1.7 million. they ended up sending the jobs out of the country anyways and had to give the money back.

does trump get to singlehandedly decide which companies to help and how much each one gets? that's the part I have the major issue with.

I propose a slightly modified version of Cain's tax plan.

Trump gets to claim all the credit for this deal.

My understanding is that Pence offered them the same deal when he was governor, and Carrier turned him down. Trump may have threatened future tariffs, or he may have promised additional defense department business with United Technologies (Carrier's parent company).
