Denial.

Supremacists send up serious red flags for me. But just as bad are some of my own family who are saying "well, they won't be coming after the Jews, so it'll be ok." No, it's most definitely not ok.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

It's always bothered me greatly how the narrative has excluded non-Jewish Holocaust victims and survivors: homosexuals, the disabled, Roma gypsies, blacks, priests, trade unionists, and so on.

I guess I was able to sympathize with someone like Elie Wiesel, who stated emphatically that the Shoah was a uniquely Jewish experience.

I can understand that, culturally, since Jews genuinely were persecuted beyond all other groups. And their history cannot be excluded from this.

But it's dishonest to focus on six million and forget about five million. I am certain that many school textbooks use the "six million" figure over the "eleven million" figure. And that's clear evidence of the narrative having been owned. (I want to make it clear that I don't see this as a systemic plot, a conspiracy, or not necessarily even intentional; that's how culture is sometimes)

But no matter how you slice it, exclusion is silly. If you're an oppressed minority, then it's good to have genuine alliances with other such minorities. Strength in numbers.

Now we can get into the hypocrisy of conservatives re: Jewishness. "I will always be pro-Israel! Fuck liberal Hollywood with its Spielbergs and its Weinsteins!"

I maintain that casual racists (heh) hate/fear Muslims much more than Jews.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

At least temporarily...

The fact that any legitimate news organization even devotes a single sentence to Tila Tequila is part of the fucking problem.
I've never heard of this person until now. I guess I'm missing out on the whole "social media star" culture.

Then again, I've always yearned for a seven continents as one world existence, as foolhardy as such lofty goals are. :hippie:

It’s not always hypocritical. Some fundies are only pro-Israel because they believe that Israel is needed to bring about armageddon. They think that God won’t end the world until Jews rebuild the old temple. But there’s already a mosque on the old site, and knocking it down is guaranteed to start all out war with the Muslim neighbors, so Israel has to stay in Jewish hands until an earthquake knocks the mosque down.

My extremely controversial opinion is that the Israelis and the Palestinians have committed terrible acts against each other. Both sides need to drop it, come to the table, work out an accord, and actually honor it. But that's never going to happen.
