OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

Yeah, Colin Power will most likely be voting for Clinton.

It's not as though the GOP has been saddled with a crazy candidate. They created that monster.

Why would Power want to be a part of that?

No way he would vote for Trump.

I don't think anyone in the GOP leadership wanted Trump to run. They did create the path for him to succeed, but he is not the person they want running. Even when Powell endorsed Obama, he said he was still a Republican and he wouldn't campaign for Obama so if he still considers himself a republican, I would think he would be interested in saving his party.

That party died a long time ago. Long before he even realized it.

You know, if I was in charge of the GOP, I would be at Colin Powell's house right now begging him to run. Explaining to him that he is the only chance to save the party from total destruction. Then have a contested convention and make him the nominee. Sure Trump would run as a third party and give Hillary the election, but the party wouldn't be viewed as a disgrace by the rest of the world. And Colin may be able to win.

It can't be a contested convention - at least by the existing rules. Trump has the met the existing necessary conditions to be the Republican candidate. The current party rules require that party delegates vote as they've pledged.

The party could call for rule changes at the beginning of the convention to free the delegates from their pledge, which would probably work since most (if not all) of Trump's delegates are Republican party minions, not actual Trump supporters.

However, there is no precedent for such a dramatic rule change, and even as whacko as the parties are today, I don't think the Republicans would try the nuclear option. The fallout from the Trump supporters would tear the party in two, if not create out and out violence.

Oh, and unfortunately, Powell is 79 years old - much too old for a White House run.

i have already been reading that there are some very powerful people in the GOP that are calling for that exact scenario to happen at the opening of the convention.
they're frantically looking for someone to nominate other than Trump.

Oh, there are plenty of people in the party who want to dump Trump, but the fact the the party bigwigs (like Mitch McConnell) are starting to endorse Trump tells me there's not going to be a coup.

So, this thread made me curious about some things so I first went to the Republican website and discovered that they have a store on the site. This is my favorite product: https://www.gop.com/george-hw-bush-socks/

In the interest of impartiality I decided to look at the other side and here is the best product on their site: http://store.democrats.org/products/bo-bow-tie

Libertarian party, not so whimsical: http://lpstore.org/

The Green party is fairly plain too, wlthough they have this on the page:

Here you’ll find green and union-made, sweatshop-free apparel, Earth-friendly products, and everything you need to promote the Green Party in style. Be sure to check out our party literature to help you spread the word, and don’t forget to "Be Seen Being Green!"

Take from this what you will.

I think I'll order a pair of Bush socks AND a Bo Bow tie, just to keep everybody guessing.

The product video for the GHWB socks was the best thing I've seen all week.

Also, the DNC's servers just got hacked by Russian intelligence.

You'll get some leg tonight, for sure!

Honestly I was surprised that the big two parties didn't have some sort of "Bread and Circuses" virtual theater on their sites.

Not going to happen. The GOP has spent the last twenty years telling crazy rednecks to stockpile guns for the day tyrants try to take over the country. Only a suicidal man would take Trump’s spot away.

His name is Trump, his name is Trump
He'll make you laugh he'll make you cry he'll make you think!
La de da de doo da da!
I'm gonna go stick a plunger up my ass and read a book.

Sadly people forget that precedents are something that is set as well as something that is followed. Therefore something being unprecedented doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be done. I mean Mitt Romney seemingly like a good (read: an acceptable/appealing possibility) option for president was unprecedented for me until he's stood firm in his unwillingness to support Trump. He's still not someone I would vote for, but my respect for him went from non-existent to the first tick on the meter because he refuses to cave on the travesty of Trump like the rest of his party.

I'd rather a party be deeply divided by people that are standing by their convictions (which should be shaped their constituents) than a party rally around a shitty leadership option to feign a united front. Right now the Republicans look weak...and more than bit like an overgrown oompa loompa.

Trump’s campaign revoked the Washington Post’s press credentials. I guess he doesn’t realize this won’t stop them from covering a campaign that revolves around twitter and speeches broadcast live on cable news.

I believe what we are seeing from Trump is an attempt to control the press, and it would grow to an alarming level if he were to be elected. Remember, he has been essentially a dictator in his business and personal life for decades. We see him harshly attack any person or group that displeases him or might get in his way.

You are right about precedents not meaning something shouldn't be done, but precedent DOES give more of a justification for doing something. The Trump supporters, and even many of the non Trump supporting Republican rank and file would never stand for such a blatant usurping of power by the Republican leadership with no precedent.
