Official Compendium of New Products for NAMM 2018

So who's at NAMM besides @Mark Wein ?

If Kemper is there, I hope ya'll get a chance to check out the profiling amp. I'd love to hear your impressions. I'm loving mine more each time I use it. Taking it to an audition next week instead of my amazing but 3,000lb Orange amp.

The headstock on that Horus MB3 looks like the plastic thingies i use to floss and pick old vittles out of my teeth.

That Suhr singlecut looks almost exactly like mine (well, Jaxns actually) ha! Lol. Reduced headstock angle, straight pull, lighter, etc even the headstock shape is similar except that I can’t see the very end in their picture.

I did t get a chance to see Kemper. Everyone I know who has one has loved it. This show is the worst place to listen to anything so I don’t even bother anymore. The one product that actually sounded good was the Amplifire box @Psychotronic uses. If I played in a setting with a dedicated sound man I would have bought it on the spot.

I'm not at NAMM, but I've had major kemper gas for a while now.

I'm worried that if I do then I'll have to buy one

Is yours the version with a power amp or without?

Without. I have a powered monitor (1,000 watts) or use a PA or headphones. Running in stereo through a PA or headphones is a sweet indulgence. The Kemper isn’t cheap but not unreasonable to compared to a top notch amp... esp if you get a used one like I did.

I really want a power head and the pedal board. They are a little cheaper in Switzerland than the US, but they still are expensive. I would buy one but I am really worried that it will send me down the rabbit hole of knob turning that I wasted a lot of time on with Line6 and other modeling stuff. I know the Kemper stuff sounds great, but I'd rather learn new guitar stuff than how to program something. I guess I recognize I'm old and will never need such a device. I still want one.

I was worried about the rabbit hole too but I quickly found about 8 profiles that I absolutely love (vintage Marshall’s and vox mostly) and I’ve been able to just switch around those and not get into knob twiddling too badly. I follow a few profile makers too that put out amazing profiles.

There’s far less time sink than Line6 products. Mostly, I think, because the interface is extremely intuitive and logical. Of course there’s a learning curve but it’s an acceptable one.

Having a floor board (Kemper brand or other midi controller) allows you to really take full control.
