We were given a Mossberg 20 gauge pump sawed off pistol grip as a wedding present. :embarrassed:

We've never fired it.
Nothin' says W. Virginia like a pistol grip shotgun for a wedding gift. :)

FWIW, I think you'll be fine w/that .45. It's my favorite caliber.

Congrats on the new firearms!

I know nothing about rifles or pistols but I'm sure you got a couple nice weapons.

Not a fan of Glock, I just don't like the feel of the polymer bottom and metal up top balance wise. My favorite .45 semi was my father's Ruger.

And good choice on the Ruger rifle. All around good company for me. Never met one I didn't like I guess.

A .45 will take care of business.

I'm no fan of Glocks, I prefer Sigs, but that's mainly based on the grip angle and shitty trigger feel...I prefer a hammer fall action...

As far as the rifle, my main deer rifle is a Ruger Mk2 light in .243...'nuff said...

You must be a damn good shot, sir!
One of my long time buddies hunts only with a .243. It was his pride and incredible marksmanship that drove that choice while the rest of us hunted with .270's.

I tend to hunt from a blind, and I fire off rest...I can hit center mass out to 150 yards with a Federal 100gr boattail soft point...

Yeah, I can shoot...

I'm a 1911 guy, but not into the "1911 vs. Glock" nonsense. I'd like to pick one up, or maybe the Springer XD.

I have an XD Mod.2 in 45, it's a great pistol - recommended. + Springfield has a promo going now to get 2 free mags and some other stuff with any new purchase if you're considering a purchase in the near future.

I also have a Colt 1911, and it too is awesome.

w/r/t larger caliber semis, I grew up shooting 1911s and to this day, I'm consistently more accurate out of the gate with a 1911 than I am w/ a Glock or similar. If I was looking to add a range only reasonably priced .45, it'd probably be a Kimber Custom II. I've shot a bunch of different Glock models and while I can shoot them consistently well, nothing like I can with a good old 1911.

We looked at a Springfield, but Mrs. P (the resident expert on guns) thought the Glock was a better choice.

I think Gander Mountain had a Springfield .45 for $499. We paid the extra bill for the Glock.

Don't ask me model numbers.

Did you guys shoot any of them first? All of my local indoor ranges rent a variety of brands/calibers and I've been amazed at how I did or didn't bond w/ pistols that I had expectations or preconceptions about before hand. What's the 'right' choice always comes down to intended use, personal prefs, budget, etc, etc.

Nope. Didn't shoot either. Held them and pretended to shoot. That's about it.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun at the range no matter what. Once you start developing this GAS, you can go test drive a bunch to weed out your next.

HNGsD!

I haven't shot since my Army days, but I fear if I get back into it now, there will be another potential of runaway GAS :(

Congrats. I am also a 1911 guy and love the .45.
Great round.
I just put money down on a Ruger Match Champion .357 for some SSR-IDPA shooting.

I recently bought a Ruger American in 270 win that came packaged with a Redfield scope. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet either. Hoping to take it out this weekend and sight it in.

you should be able to hunt and take almost any game in north america with that rig. presuming your skills are reasonably well honed.
there's a story (true) in Nosler's reloading manual #3 that goes......an african hunting guide had an american client arrive for a safari.....but the client had saved every penny for the safari and could not afford a "proper" african gun, so he brought his deer rifle....a 270 winchester.....he took 16 animals with 16 shots over the course of the safari.
'nuff said. :thu:
