Sigma 18 - 300mm or Tamron 16 - 300mm ?

From what I've seen (including a couple of YouTube videos directly comparing them), the Sigma sounds like it has slightly better image quality then the Tamron, but the image stabilization and build quality is better on the Tamron. The Tamron is $200 more new, but I can get a used Tamron for a bit less than a new Sigma.

Normally, I'd heavily weigh the picture quality when making my choice, but considering post processing programs can fix chromatic aberration and barrel/pincushion distortion given lens correction files (which exist for both these lenses), I'm wondering if a slightly better picture quality matters.

The Sigma has a USB dock which allows updating the firmware and tweaking the focus, but I'm not sure how much of an advantage that is.

The Sigma dock is pretty useful. I had to make some significant focal adjustments to my 150-600 lens when I switched to the EOS 5d. The lens was really soft on the new body and had very inaccurate autofocus. The dock allowed me to fix these problems. The process of fixing it wasn’t fast, but it worked really well.

These are unprocessed files from today’s trip to Gruyères. It is Swiss National Day, so that is why all the flags are everywhere.

All pics were shot with a Canon 24-105 L IS USM II lens on an EOS 5d MKIV.

I saw a documentary on the making of Alien and one of the producers asked Giger how in the world he could stand to take heroin if his mind produced the images in his art. He replied that without the heroin, the images in his mind were far more terrifying than those in his art.

I can't even imagine.

Ordered a new macro lens today, which is something I have missed having since I switched a full frame camera. Should arrive mid week. I went with the canon EF 100mm f 2.8 IS L lens. I also ordered a ring flash to go with it.

Takamine porn....... I spent the morning carting my guitar and camera bag around Lowell.

These first ones are from behind the stage at Boarding House Park where they hold the Summer Music Series. Hundreds of famous and not so famous artists have played this venue over the years. The sound is incredible in here. I tried to get a NP ranger to take a couple pics of me playing out front, but he had to head for work.
