Sounds like the Dudley Moore movie Bedazzled where the devil gives Moore seven wishes, but each wish makes Moore's life successively worse.That's one thing that people don't seem to get/remember/realize that all of the traditional Djinn (or Genie in the states) stories were tales of "careful what you wish for" and the entire point of the Djinn was that he was a crafty demon that would always try to find a way to literally grant your wish without actually fulfilling the actual intended wish.

Exactly, or the 2000 remake where Liz Hurley plays the part of the genie. Not sure which version is better, but the remake has the advantage of having Liz Hurley.
