This popped up on my Facebook feed, so I have no idea how accurate it is. If it is accurate, Joan Baez is way too high on the list, IMO. :)

also, if accurate, Santana was WAY underpaid.
Not really. He was pretty much unknown at the time. His first album was released about 2 weeks after Woodstock.

Santana and Sly Stone were my favorite performances at Hippie-Fest.

he wasn't well known for that area, but he was pretty well known in the LA/SF area.
and their style of music fit the festival well.

also, Richie Havens was over paid, imo.

Santana was forced into the festival by Bill Graham. Yes, he was known in San Francisco, but Woodstock gave him wider recognition; even fighting his guitar that was turning into a snake.

Joan Baez was a big name and a big draw at the time of Woodstock. I am sure her name brought in the folkies and the Woodstock natives. As for Richie Havens, he was also big on the folk circuit. He also kept playing long past his scheduled time because there was no one available to follow him. Keep in mind that he also had a band with him.

John Sebastian wasn't even scheduled to perform. He was walking around stoned and was put on the stage with Tim Hardin's Harmony guitar.

Wait a goddamned second..... Sha Na Na was a band before the TV show?....... AND they were at Woodstock? No fuckin' way.

EDIT: Found this on Wikipedia... "From 1969 to 1971, the band played at, among other places, the Fillmore East and Fillmore West, opening for such bands as the Grateful Dead, the Mothers of Invention, and the Kinks.[22] When Sha Na Na began headlining at other venues, one of their opening acts was Bruce Springsteen."
