Doc Martens are Waffle Stompers for grown ups.

who knew the dude from the Eagles...the man who wrote Smugglers blues also made boots. The world is full of surprises !
He was in Winslow AZ and booted Jackson Browne.Told him to Take it easy.

I always have a pair of these for work:

I’ve never seen them with the black stitching before. That’s great for shoes that are going to get polished because it won’t get stained the way yellow does.

I am just going to use the Doc Marten's wax they sell on mine. Gets good reviews.

That’s why I specifically get these. The yellow stitching makes them a little less suitable for formal wear as well

yep, those are great. A bit heavy by today's backpacking standards, but the new lightweight boots only last a few seasons at most.
I was just looking at one of the local outfitting stores at boots. I loved my old leather norwegian weld Raichles, though they did not fit any more. I was able to find, with the help of a guy working there, a pair with the same sort of feel in terms of a stiff sole that rolls along as you walk. But it still looks like a cheapo fabric hiker to me. Though they charge a pretty penny. As we are doing some backpacking (I, the wife and the daughter), I will be looking for some better boots. Going in old running shoes, as I used to do for short backpack trips, is not making my achilles happy any more. I would accept a little weight for a sturdy build and feel.

Yep, I need ankle support for a pack over 45 lbs or so. But I love all the new lightweight stuff, even though my most memorable backpacking trips were with my external frame Kelty pack and leather Vasque boots.

Raichles and first a smaller Jan Sport when I was a middle schooler, then the typical, for the day in Seattle, REI Cruiser for me. I now have a Go-Lite Quest 65 that is nice, though big, because I always overpack. http://www.bplite.com/viewtopic.php?t=5783

I never really got on with Docs. Unnecessarily uncomfortable and a pain in the ass. Besides, as a rebellious teen, I had easy access to USMC combat boots any time I outgrew or wore out a pair.

Way. More. Legit!

I did lubs me some Waffle Stompers as a kid though. They paired up great with Toughskins jeans. :)

Some of these look really tempting. I particularly like the Timberlands and even more, the Danner Mountain Pass. Hand made in Portland is a selling point for me.

So yeah, I got 'em, and like 'em. I had to size down and stretch as the US 9's were too sloppy, and the US 8's were tight, but stretchable to fit. They are gonna settle in fine.

Got a pair of the basic calf skin ropers.

Just put them on a walked about a mile. Fit, feel, and look great. I bet they’ll really open up in a couple weeks.

Probably the best pair of boots I’ve bought new for the money. I’ll check back in a few months after I’ve put some more miles on them and done the wear nothing else walking around New Orleans test.
