Doc Martens are Waffle Stompers for grown ups.

Yeah, cowboy boots with a suit is too country western and too rural idaho for me. Where I am, I am usually in a blazer, tie, button down, slacks or chinos (moving away from khakis), and the shoes. I will be shopping for some more wool slacks with some cool textures/colours to replace some older stuff. I do wear a suit some days, but not that often. It is a mountain town.

I worked for Santa Fe Pacific Pipelines early in my career. Downtown LA. Every one in upper management in that company wore suits and cowboy boots.

ok, too rhinestone cowboy then. ;-) .

@rickenvox I still have a pair of black Tony Llamas I bought in the early 90's after I started dating my wife, and she had dragged me out line dancing. The things you do for love. I still have them, but never wear them. I always feel silly. I am no cowboy. And real cowboys don't wear those anyway.

Red Stone Heritage.

DbDawg is right, they’re good boots. Haven’t had any problems with the elastics, though, and I’ve worn them a lot.

Blundstones are great as well, I’ve got a couple of pairs of those and they’re incredibly comfortable for my feet.

I’ve heard that Astorflex is pretty good as well, and that they’re a bit cheaper.

Redstone, or redback?

I wear them almost every day if it’s not sandal weather. I don’t have problems with the quality.

Do you have a pair of the Chelsea style?

Nope. I have a set of casual/dress shoes that only look like Docs if you look close, a pair of big shitkicking work boots, a pair of the basic 3-hole shoes, and a pair of 1460s made of some weird synthetic weave material.

I word Docs in the late 80s, early 90s. Not the best winter shoe out there, my feet would freeze if I was outside to long in the winter. As I got older, they became way too uncomfortable.

No half sizes.

It's been decades since I bought a pair, but you don't need the half sizes. I wear a half size, and would just buy them a half size down because they stretch out. Wear them for a day or 2 and they will fit perfectly. My friends who didn't normally wear a half size always had issues with them being too loose after wearing them for a while.

Did that. Didn't work. I have wide, flat feet and need the width.

If you want that style sunny get redback.redback is an Australian company and they still make them by hand, they tan their own leather and all that. It’s impossible to wear the soles out.
I be been wearing them in an automotive environment since 2004. I bought one pair of the other Australian boot company ( can’t remember the name) but they have been around sine 1888 or something and the soles literally fell apart in about 6 months. I imagine the docs are the same...China made.
This will be my last pair of the style though. My problem is the spandex sides always end up stretching and then they get sloppy, it’s just inherent in the design of these types...it’s like underwear, eventually the elasticity wears out and they lose the shape.also if you buy this style size down at least a half size if not a full size. If the leather is good it will take awhile but it will stretch and fit like a glove. If they are “comfy” at first they will be loose later....why not just get some of them snow pac boots. Doesn’t it snow up your way?

I have a pair in black and am planning to get a brown pair this year. They are nice boots.

So it isn't the lack of half sizes that prevents you, it's your Flinstone feet
I have Fred Flintstone fore feet, with Legolas arch and heel. Well, I ordered these anyway. At the size suggested by Amazon based on my other shoes I bought there. Free returns, so if they get here and I don't like them, or need to exchange size, I can. I looked at some of the other options, including the Australian and British options, but for the kind of wear I will put on these, I think they will perform fine.

And as for style, for the court use I am thinking, small uncontested hearings such as filing, pre-trials and scheduling matters, where sometimes people don't even wear a tie, I will be fine. The reviews are almost all good, and anything negative had to do with sizing. I walk to court from my office, and I don't want to carry extra crap like inside shoes. If I don't like these, I will order one of the others. Returns/exchanges are included with my Prime. Thanks for the suggestions!
