I think it's pretty sweet. Wish I knew how to play mandolin.

It's a fun instrument to play, you've already got a lot of skills that will translate from the guitar, and it's a great stepping stone if you'd ever like to take up the violin, viola, or cello.

If you honestly want to play it, can afford it, and have a little bit of time, then I can't really see any disincentive.

I think time is the issue for me. I don't get enough time to play guitar let alone anything else.
