Question: Why do oasis get so much hate in the US?

I seriously doubt the quality of those Falafel and Hummus (middle-eastern snobbery here), but still am sure they're way better than Oasis.

I used to find the public brother insufferableness very annoying. Now, I just tend to like their songs when I hear them.

That one did bug me. probably in the way similar to when Lennon bugged my parents and their friends when he said the beatles were more popular than Jesus. Kind of a British shock jock type of statement, both of them, I think in hindsight now.

That does not make it better.

In the end, I like their music when I hear it now. And their annoyingness is not worse than things done by other bands and artists whose music I like. Starting with Chuck Berry and onward. At least to my knowledge, they weren't banging underage kids.
 
I became aware of them when the whole “the next Beatles” thing was thrown around.
I listened. Didn’t hear that. Moved on.

I heard about the brothers thing and didn’t really care, so never gave them any more of my time.
 
The Beatles thing was way overplayed imo.

Listening back to them, aside from a bit when they went mad on coke around the 3rd album, I get much more T Rex, Kinks, Mott The Hoople esque Brit influences coming through than The Beatles.

Never seen a band live that got a crowd so worked up either, not even close.

IDK...I always found a certaqin Charm in Noel and Liam , certainly much much much more thatn the donald asshole. Liam and Noel have redeeming qualities the other guy has none
 
Sometimes I think Brits are confused when Americans are utterly indifferent to things that are cultural phenomena over there. Oasis and Spice Girls are prime examples - huge in Great Britain, barely made a splash in the US. I think perhaps the UK forgot that rock was invented here...

Not talking about present day DJT. That's a topic for somewhere else. Mid nineties trump was more charming than those two. Especially Liam.

I always thought he never had any charm because he always took himself too seriously even liam and Noel at their prime kinda had a bit of play in themeselves, a bit of tongue in cheek. Djt was more tongue in his own ass

when Oasis came on here it was about 94 and grunge was still king and everybody was in super 'alternative"mode and probably viewed oasis as corporate rock which Kurt cobain told us on the cover of rolling stone that 'corporate' sux

Spice Girls and Oasis were pretty popular in the US. They both had two huge albums, some big hit singles, and were on MTV constantly.

I think it's probably more fair to say their popularity was just shorter lived.

Yet perfected here and Oasis are part of that great lineage :embarrassed:

Hate is maybe a strong word but there's plenty of derision and certainly when they were still active they got a lot of flack on HC forums from memory, Noel's playing in particular.

Guitar forum chumps are not a representative sample of Americans, or even American musicians. We're mostly computer nerds who may also play or listen to music.
