I wear a similar version every single day. I've posted pics of me in it several times. And yes, I am very much balding.

OP posted a Flat Cap, not a Newsboy.
A Newsboy is puffier, stitched more like a baseball cap with panels, and has a button on top, like this

Yah Amazon doesn't know the difference. (And neither did I) You search for either, you get both. That's how I ended up with a newsboy when I wanted a flat cap.

It's been a journey of discovery

The one I posted (and wear) is called a Newsboy Flat Cap Gatsby on Amazon. LOL

When I retired around 2013 I grew out a long ponytail, even tho I was already getting pretty thin on top. Just because Ive never been able to have my hair long as I wanted, either because of my parents early on or my career later. By the time Covid rolled around I pretty much had nothing left up top. So believe me, I became a hat expert. Besides the basic baseball cap, the flat cap was my go to baldy covering.
Last year I went back to a reg short on the sides and back haircut for a month or 2, then I said fk it and buzzed the whole thing off. I delayed the inevitable so long because I didn't wanna look like my Dad. He wore a buzz cut and made me do the same up until high school, 1972 or 73. Theres some trauma there. A buzz cut was NOT COOL in the 60s and 70s.
But finally the long hair was just too much hassle and I surrendered to the genes. Now I cut it myself, no barber bills.
Since that time I havnt worn a hat nearly as much, only when I actually need one for sun protection, rain, warmth, etc.

I'm not a newsboy, interwar criminal or vintage MG owner but I've worn them since the late '90s, I think. I guess I just tend to like retro stuff.

were you a Micheal Jordan fan in the 90's perhaps?

No, I can't say I was. But they were very common back then. I guess the inspiration came in part from Michael Corleone and his henchmen in the Sicily scenes, you know, suspenders and slightly oversized white shirts and all.

I decided the newsboy is a lot better when worn at a slight angle, kinda mimicking the part in my hair. As an added bonus, wearing it that way doesn't mess up my hair. Can't do that with a flat cap.

A couple years ago, before she unfriended me, I asked sister in law if she was wearing her new hat jaunty. She had never heard of the word before so I posted this. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Jaunty Cap

I always associate them with Sylvain Sylvain

Now that Sylvain has passed it's up to you to carry the NY Dolls torch, 2manband!

They were my preferred headgear during and post college. I migrated back to ball caps, but I like them because they were also good to wear backwards and don't have those annoying snapbacks.
