What to do in Vegas?

What to do in Vegas?

Leave. Quickly.

Seriously, Vegas itself is a total shithole. However, as others have mentioned, it is in close proximity to some areas of stunning natural beauty that haven’t yet been ruined. I totally recommend at least two full days at Rhyolite and Death Valley, plus any number of great photo spots on the way there and back.

Been looking into Red Rock more. Looks awesome.

I'd quite happily put around on a scooter but I doubt she'd be into that so any suggestions for car hire places?

There's a place just north (?) of the Encore that rents Ferraris and Lambos for around $250/hr., 8 hrs. is around $600.

I'm not a car guy by any stretch so I'm not going down that route - that being said, it's cheaper to hire a convertible Mustang than a scooter  !!!

I can see Calvin Harris for $250 on NYE

Got Christmas dinner booked in. Not my first choice of place but it'll do.

So that leads us to the next question: good brunch places which are very liberal with their mimosas?

Vegas is not a shithole - a common misconception of those who do not live there. It is two cities, that are kept well apart by locals.

Summerlin's nice. So is Green Valley.

Anyhow, re: fast cars, I think the Andrettis may still have a race-car ride deal going at the Speedway. Not suggested: "The Dan Wheldon."

Ha, my wife won 382 bucks with the first dollar she put in a slot machine then won over 100 shortly after.

I made a little on craps so all in on our first couple of hours we'vebeen fed, got a few drinks and are over 500 dollars up

I like this place already.

She won a bunch more today. The best I mustered was losing 10 dollars on craps but getting a few free drinks

Having Christmas dinner down at Oscars on Freemont Street so going to spend most of the day there, that should be different

Google maps says there's a dispensary en route. Would be rude not to pop in and see what's what :embarrassed:

FWIW, it's "car hiking," but the loop road through Red Rocks is not the worst way to spend 2 hours. You might even see bighorn sheep near the end of it.

I had planned on hiring a car and heading out there but the traffic is f***ing nuts.

Traffic where? In town, or on the loop road itself?

In town.

I've driven abroad on the right hand side before but this is a whole different ball game and I don't think I'd be confident even picking something up outside of town.

You just go west on Charleston ... forever (actually, about 6 miles). Shouldn't be that bad; Charleston intersects with LV Blvd right around the Hilton.

Edit: since you're still there, if you haven't been to Table 34, you should consider it. Strongly consider it. It's where locals go to really have a nice dinner. Nothing earth-shattering, just a really nice restaurant, and nothing stereotypically 'Vegas' about it.

Oi oi folks.

Went to see Circque du Soleil's KA last night at the MGM. At first it was a bit meh but once they kicked things off it was awesome.

We're going ice skating at the Cosmopolitan tonight (I used to skate every week when I was a teenager and reckon I've still got it  ) booked up to see the Grand Canyon South Rim on Thursday and going to try and get tickets for LOVE on Friday, home on Saturday

Yeah so it's not a high faluting, cerebral kind of place but it has been an awesome holiday.

Yup still got the moves on the ice

My missus not so much, she dragged herself around the side for one lap alongside a gang of Asian toddlers then gave up - 20 bucks well spent

She did furnish me with beer from the side right enough  :embarrassed:

I remember Vegas as anti-cerebral; one of the things that I lamented. However, they have every level of sensual pleasure available.

Still hoping you make it to Table 34. You can thank me later if you go.
