Listening to it, I immediately remember why I can't stand the recent Dream Theater albums.
There's an energy and sense of fun that went missing when Mike left the band (and Mike is a good arranger), and it's very much present again here. Mangini doesn't have that sort of personality, he's just an insanely technically gifted drummer.

This is the best I have heard Petrucci play in a band setting in quite awhile.
